YANCOAL AUSTRALIA LTD - Polocrosse carnival delivers horseback fun and brings the crowds to Emerald

-- Over the weekend(9-10 May), more than 100 people flockedthrough the gates to compete in and enjoy the horseback action at the Emerald Polocrosse Carnival, which was supported by the Emerald Polocrosse Club and volunteers, and with financial assistance from Yarrabee Coal Mine.

Yarrabee coal Mine was pleasedto be the naming rightssponsor, donating $3,000to help ensurethe event was a success and to raise much-needed funds for the Emerald Polocrosse Club.

The event welcomednine senior teams and six junior teams from areasacross Queensland, includingAlton Down, Bauhinia, Roma, Bowen, Pyramid and Tansey.

Polocrosse is a fast-paced, excitingteam sport and all competitors put on a great show of advanced riding skills and overall horsemanship.

Bryan Wells, President of the EmeraldPolocrosse Club was thrilled with how the event went.

“The carnival alwaysunites the Emeraldcommunity and brings competitors and spectators togetherto enjoy a day of fantastic and exciting horseback action.

“Our club reallycame together to put on a fantastic day, and the weatherwas perfect. It was a celebration of community, competition and country life.

“We had a strong turnout.with a number of peopleopting to make a weekendof it and camp at the grounds. We were serving yummy food and refreshments all weekend.

“Even though we had a smaller numberof teams competingthis year, we had an action-packed weekend and congratulations to all our winners.

“Polocrosse is a game full of excitement and enjoyment, and we love that the carnival attractsvisitors from all over Queensland, who come and enjoy the polocrosse and the rich history of Emerald.

“Thank you to all our sponsorsincluding Yarrabee Coal,”said Bryan.

The Emerald Polocrosse Club began in 1998. It is a small club with 8 members and year-on-year it is committed to hostinga great polocrosse carnival. It relieson volunteers and community donations, and support is always welcomed.

Yarrabee Coal Operations Manager, Mike Priestly, was happy to support Emerald Polocrosse Club for another year.

“The Polocrosse Carnivalis a family-friendly and socialsporting event. It always providesa tourism boost with many visitors coming to Emerald and enjoying our region, so financially assisting with the event is a perfect fit for us.

“Well done to all the competitors who participated, and we hope everyone had a fun and action-packed weekend,” said Mike.

The funding support is part of the Yancoal Yarrabee Community Support Program, which aims to make a difference in the community and to the lives of the peoplewho work and live in the areas where it operates.
