On the scenic shores of Lake Minnetonka, the community of Wayzata, MN prepares for its 41st annual James J. Hill Days celebration. The festival commemorates an important period in history for the small Minnesota lake town, named for the railroad baron that once stirred up controversy some 130 years ago, but eventually rebuilt and reopened what he declared to be “the most attractive building on the Burlington Northern route.”But that was then, and this is now. This year’s JJ Hill Days festival is set to commence on Friday, September 11th and continue through Sunday, September 13th, and the lineup of fun things to do, while enjoying the wind down of the beautiful Minnesota summer, is quite extensive - not the least of which is the Street Market, featuring over 120 unique local and regional artisans.
Jennifer Finnell of Woodsy Wino is one such artisan that’s excited for the opportunity to present her creations to the discerning Lake Minnetonka crowd. Woodsy Wino specializes in unique, hand-crafted wine glass charms and wine accessories, including a signature, patent-pending design for stemless glassware. Now residing just across the border in Wisconsin, Woodsy Wino owner/creator, Finnell, is a self-declared “Minnesota girl” at heart. “These are my old stompin’ grounds. I know this community and these people – I know they love their wine like I do! I’m excited to debut our signature wine accessories to this particular crowd. It’s like coming home,” says Finnell with a smile.
In addition to the JJ Hill Days Street Market, which is open Saturday from 11-6 and Sunday from 11-4, festival goers have the opportunity to enjoy a host of other exciting events, including a carnival, water ski show, parade, fireworks and more. National and regional music acts will be performing Friday and Saturday nights, including Dierks Bentley, Soul Asylum and, Finnell’s personal favorite, the BoDeans.
