Waxlander Gallery to Host Marshall Noice & Sangita Phadke for their Joint Exhibition Entitled, “A Journey Through Pastel” in June 2014.

Waxlander Art Gallery & Sculpture Garden on historic Canyon Road in Santa Fe, New Mexico presents “A Journey Through Pastel,” a joint exhibition featuring the works of Marshall Noice and Sangita Phadke. The Show will run from June 3 through June 6, 2014, with the opening reception to take place on Friday, June 6 from 5:00-7:30pm MST at the gallery. Art enthusiasts are invited to enjoy food, live music and casual discussion with the artists on the evening of the opening reception.

Noice and Phadke’s artistic styles are vastly different. While Noice employs impressionistic gestures, Phadke is partial to the absolutely precise – and although parallels in form cannot be found when looking at the artists’ bodies of work, their sources of inspiration are quite similar.

Noice explains, “My inspiration for this new work comes from my travels over the past year. The new paintings are landscapes of, for the most part, northern New Mexico, southern Colorado and northern Arizona.” Phadke describes her source of inspiration for this show, saying, “My show highlights fruits, vegetables, and flowers from regions all across the United States and abroad.”

Both artists’ travels inspire them to reach for new heights in creativity, and it will be fascinating to see how the same medium can be used in vastly different ways in this unprecedented dual exhibition. Although Noice and Phadke have differing processes and stylistic elements in their work, their vision for the viewers’ experience is almost seamless.

Noice explains, “I hope the art viewer will take away a strong sense of place when looking at my new work. And since my work is not especially literal, that sense of place may relate to the precise place in the painting or it may be a place known only to the viewer.” Phadke’s vision for the viewer is much the same and she says, “Whether it’s a sweet Georgia peach or a fresh apple from New York, I hope that viewers will feel a sense of place when they view my collection of paintings.”

The June 2014 Pastel show at Waxlander Gallery will bring together two power-house pastel artists. Sangita, a self-taught artist has developed her signature style over the years through color experimentation and an obsession with detail. Marshall, a widely known pastel and oil painter, has cultivated a notable style of his own through his perpetual fascination with the natural world and a journeying through the endless possibilities of color combinations. Both artists have a passion for color and feel that it has an inimitably powerful impact on any given composition.
