Collector Connoisseur Announces New Framework for Art Collecting Education
A Persistent Barrier Between Appreciation and Action Across galleries, fairs, and digital platforms, many people engage deeply with contemporary art yet hesitate to collect. This hesitation rarely reflects a lack of interest or taste. Instead, it is shaped by opaque pricing, unspoken conventions, and the persistent sense that meaningful collecting requires insider knowledge. As access to contemporary art has expanded, the distance between admiration and ownership has not narrowed. For many aspiring collectors, the increased visibility of art—whether through exhibitions, online platforms, or media—has amplified uncertainty rather than resolved it. Decisions feel high stakes, while the rules governing quality, value, and context remain unclear. Collector Connoisseur was founded in response to this condition. The platform addresses the structural reasons why interest in contemporary art so often fails to translate into confident collecting. Why Information Alone Has Not Solved the Problem The contemporary art world produces an abundance of content, including market commentary, artist profiles, and educational material. Despite this volume, collectors frequently report increased doubt rather than clarity. Collector Connoisseur identifies the issue as structural. Information presented without decision making frameworks often intensifies uncertainty. Conflicting opinions, trend driven narratives, and isolated facts leave collectors without a method for evaluating choices independently. The platform is grounded in the belief that confidence emerges not from access to more information, but from understanding how to interpret and apply it. Insights Formed Through Advisory Practice The approach behind Collector Connoisseur is shaped by long term advisory and educational experience. Its founder, Nico, has spent over fifteen years working across art advisory, curation, education, and cultural consulting. Through advising private collectors, working with institutions, teaching at Christie’s Education, and collaborating with major art fairs, Nico observed a recurring pattern. Collecting mistakes were rarely caused by poor taste. They resulted from the absence of structured judgment. Collectors often lacked a way to evaluate quality beyond aesthetics, to understand pricing logic, or to place works within broader artistic and career contexts. When clear frameworks were introduced, decision making became more confident, even in complex market conditions. Collector Connoisseur translates these professional modes of thinking into an independent education platform. Collecting as a Learnable Skill A central premise of Collector Connoisseur is that collecting is not instinctual or inherited. It is a skill composed of judgment, contextual understanding, and repeatable decision processes. This reframing alters how collectors understand their own role. Confidence becomes something that can be developed rather than granted. Decisions are informed by reasoning rather than reassurance. The platform positions collecting as a form of cultural participation and long term stewardship. Value is understood through artistic significance, context, and conviction, rather than short term visibility or speculation. An Educational System Built Around Judgment Collector Connoisseur operates as an education platform rather than a marketplace or advisory service. Its purpose is to equip individuals with tools to navigate contemporary art independently. The platform focuses on structured frameworks that address recurring points of uncertainty in collecting. These include methods for assessing quality, interpreting artist trajectories, understanding pricing structures, and avoiding common early mistakes. Rather than emphasizing recommendations or market predictions, Collector Connoisseur prioritizes transferable thinking that remains relevant across changing market conditions. The Fundamentals of Collecting Contemporary Art The flagship offering from Collector Connoisseur is The Fundamentals of Collecting Contemporary Art. The course introduces the evaluative strategies used in professional advisory contexts and adapts them for independent collectors. The course does not frame art as a financial instrument or promote speculative approaches. It focuses on decision-making, context, and a long-term perspective. Students are encouraged to develop their judgment and are welcome to seek further explanation or guidance as needed. The course has attracted a global audience of aspiring and emerging collectors seeking clarity over acceleration. Lifetime access and periodic updates reinforce the platform’s emphasis on sustained relevance rather than completion. A Clearly Defined Audience Collector Connoisseur is designed for individuals who wish to collect contemporary art with intention, whether they are first-time or emerging collectors, more established collectors, or those simply exploring the world of art. The platform welcomes anyone who values clarity, rigor, and independence in their approach to collecting. The platform is not designed for trend chasing or short-term market strategies. It does not promise shortcuts, but its philosophy is grounded in the belief that meaningful collecting requires patience, discernment, and accountability, ultimately enabling individuals to collect art with confidence and clarity. This clarity of positioning allows individuals to self select based on alignment rather than persuasion. A Measured Alternative in a Noisy Market In an increasingly accelerated art market, Collector Connoisseur adopts a slower, more deliberate approach. Its educational materials prioritize understanding over urgency. The platform integrates structured analysis with ongoing commentary, including a weekly newsletter that applies its frameworks to individual works. This continuity reinforces consistency between theory and practice. Further information is available at www.collectorconnoisseur.com . About Collector Connoisseur Collector Connoisseur is an independent education platform dedicated to demystifying contemporary art collecting. Founded on the belief that collecting is a learned skill, the platform offers the Fundamentals of Collecting —a comprehensive course that provides decision-making frameworks traditionally accessible only through professional advisory relationships. Serving a global audience of aspiring and emerging collectors, the platform empowers students to gain clarity, confidence, and a long-term engagement with contemporary art, ultimately helping them collect with intention and purpose. “From the Same Root, Why the Rush to Harm” — Qiu Tianren Questions the Meaning of Peace Through Sculpture
Beijing, January 5, 2026 — Discussions on peace and trauma continue to resonate before artist Qiu Tianren's large-scale sculpture Born of the Same Root . Crafted from metals left behind by twentieth-century conflicts and first unveiled in Beijing in 2022, the work’s poignant question — “From the Same Root, Why the Rush to Harm” — still echoes with undeniable power today. When metal remnants spanning a century are fused together in the furnace, and when Cao Zhi’s lament from “The Seven-Step Poem” — “From the same root, why the rush to harm?” — resonates across time and space with the turmoil of today’s world, a sculpture is born, carrying humanity’s deepest longing for peace. The sculpture stands 150 cm tall, 143 cm wide, and 143 cm deep, weighing 150 kilograms. It is primarily cast from melted copper and alloy materials. Its creative inspiration stems from Cao Zhi’s “The Seven-Step Poem” from the Three Kingdoms period: “From the same root, why the rush to harm?” The fraternal strife triggered by shifts of power throughout history serves as a microcosm of conflict in the progress of human civilization. From the great upheavals of the twentieth century to regional tensions in different parts of the world, disputes driven by desire and confrontation have yet to cease. The motivation behind the work originates from the artist’s deep concern for the experiences of civilians in contemporary international conflicts. After years of dedicated effort, QiuTianren collected metal remnants from different historical periods, including several twentieth-century international conflicts and recent regional instabilities. These cold metallic remains are now melted and recast into the very framework of the sculpture, transforming into an enduring vessel that carries the memory of trauma. The sculpture takes “Three Figures Struggling Over a Ding” as its core form. In ancient China, the ding vessel was a symbol of power and often a focal point of contention. In the upper part of the work, three figures are locked in a tense, intertwined posture, vividly depicting humanity’s tendency to fall into confrontation driven by self-interest. Yet beneath this strained and oppositional stance lies tightly interwoven, deeply entangled tree roots — a metaphor intentionally embedded by the artist: regardless of skin color, ethnicity, or region, humanity shares the same roots and a common destiny, inherently part of an indivisible whole. Qiu Tianren was born in Beijing, China, in May 1992. He holds a master’s degree in Digital Media and Culture from Coventry University in the UK and currently works at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. As both an educator and an artist, he consistently uses his works as a medium to reflect on reality and convey humanistic contemplation. This meticulously crafted sculpture stands as his declaration of peace to the world at this historical moment: the absurdity of conflict lies in brothers harming brothers, while the hope of civilization lies in mutual flourishing and coexistence. As people gaze upon this work cast from historical metal, we see not only artistic tension but also a warning that transcends time and space. May this sculpture serve as a mirror, reflecting humanity’s shared yearning for peace; may every metallic vein awaken the world to a steadfast commitment to the ideal of coexistence — bound by a shared origin, we have no cause to bring harm to each other. Tax Season Now Streaming on Tubi
As the holidays fade and 2026 begins, a different kind of season takes hold — one defined not by celebration, but by consequence. Tax Season is now available to watch on Tubi, delivering a grounded, character-driven crime drama where survival always comes at a price. Watch Tax Season on Tubi: Watch Tax Season (2025) - Free Movies | Tubi The title itself is more than a metaphor. In Tax Season, “tax” is operational. When money flows, someone is always collecting. Economic shifts create opportunity, but they also attract attention. Cartels, sports bookies, and street-level power brokers ensure no one profits alone. Hustling and scamming intensify, spending accelerates, and clout chasing rises with the stakes. Eventually, everyone owes. Everyone pays. Trailer clip: Tax Season | Official Trailer | Now Streaming on Tubi That tax takes many forms. In some circles, it’s known as pizzo — protection money paid to stay in business. In others, it’s a kick up, where lower-level players pass a percentage of their earnings to higher-ranking bosses. Sometimes it’s casually referred to as a tithe, the cost of staying active and alive in the game. Different names, same rule: when money is moving, the demand for a cut is never far behind. What separates Tax Season from familiar crime dramas is its tonal balance. The film blends hard realities with moments of dark comedy, using humor not to soften the story, but to expose its contradictions. The laughter carries weight, revealing how normalized danger becomes and how easily people rationalize their choices — often moments before those choices cost them everything. Time functions as currency throughout the film. Deals expire. Patience runs thin. Trust erodes. Those who understand the value of timing move differently. Those who don’t end up paying someone else’s bill. Loyalty operates under the same pressure — transactional, fragile, and constantly tested. Visually, Tax Season captures the duality of Charleston, South Carolina — its vibrant charm and its shadowy underbelly. The city becomes a character in its own right, with sweeping aerial shots highlighting its beauty while light and shadow mirror the moral conflicts beneath the surface. Behind the camera, Tax Season is guided by a singular creative and strategic vision. Shadetree K-Dee, also known as KD Davis, is the owner of ShadeTree Visuals and serves as executive producer, director, writer, creator, and world builder. A hustler by nature with a deep understanding of film marketing, he approaches filmmaking holistically — treating the feature not as an endpoint, but as a foundation. That vision expanded Tax Season into a broader ecosystem, including Grit: The Making of Tax Season, a behind-the-scenes documentary offering an unfiltered look at the process, and an official music video tied directly to the film’s world. Rescued Wood Announces New Collection of Handcrafted Art from Abandoned Timber
Rescued Wood, a unique artisan business founded by Daniel Merlo, is pleased to announce the release of a new collection of handcrafted wooden art. Specializing in transforming locally sourced, abandoned wood into timeless, functional pieces, Rescued Wood continues to pioneer sustainable practices while honoring the rich stories embedded in each piece of wood. The new collection includes a range of handcrafted items such as wooden bowls, cutting boards, wine stoppers, salt mills, and custom-designed coffee tables. Each piece is made from wood that would otherwise have been discarded or burned as firewood, giving new life to materials that would typically be forgotten. The wood, often sourced from fallen trees, old barns, or reclaimed timbers, carries with it a deep connection to the past, whether it’s a tree from a historic property or wood from a family heirloom. A Commitment to Sustainability and Craftsmanship The driving force behind Rescued Wood is Daniel Merlo’s commitment to sustainability and his passion for woodturning. For Daniel, woodworking is not just about creating art; it’s about preserving history. By sourcing locally and repurposing abandoned timber, Daniel not only prevents waste but also creates pieces that tell a story, allowing future generations to connect with the past. "Our business is centered around more than just making beautiful wooden objects," said Daniel. "Each piece carries a piece of history, a memory, or a legacy. It’s about bringing old, forgotten wood back into the community in a meaningful way." Rescued Wood’s customers have shared personal stories about how they’ve connected with Daniel’s work. For example, Norwich Free Academy reached out to Daniel after a beloved tree on its campus was severely damaged in 2012. Years later, a woman attending one of Daniel’s art festivals discovered a bowl made from that tree, only to learn it had been the very tree under which she had married years prior. Another client commissioned Daniel to craft bowls from the wood of a 150-year-old loom, passed down through generations in her family. In a separate instance, a couple who had lost their family home in a fire received a replacement bowl crafted from wood sourced from their historic property, restoring a treasured heirloom that had been lost in the disaster. Award Recognition: Best Woodturner in Connecticut of 2025 Rescued Wood’s dedication to craftsmanship and sustainability was recently recognized on a statewide level. At the 2025 Evergreen Awards, Rescued Wood was named Best Woodturner in Connecticut of 2025 , an honor celebrating excellence, innovation, and environmental responsibility in the art of woodturning. The Evergreen Awards spotlight artisans who demonstrate exceptional skill while making a positive impact on their communities and the environment. This prestigious recognition highlights Daniel Merlo’s ability to transform abandoned and discarded timber into meaningful, heirloom-quality pieces that honor both material and history. Crafting Meaningful Connections Through Art Daniel’s hands-on approach to business has made him a well-known figure in Connecticut’s artisan community. Over the years, he has participated in more than 50 art festivals and open studio events, taking the time to engage personally with his customers. This approach has allowed him to forge deep, lasting relationships with people who appreciate not only the quality of his work but also the stories behind the materials. The new collection offers something for everyone, whether it’s a piece for the kitchen, a gift for a loved one, or a statement piece of furniture. Each product is a testament to Daniel’s dedication to craftsmanship and his passion for preserving history in a sustainable, meaningful way. Handcrafted Heirlooms with a Story Rescued Wood's new collection is designed with the belief that every piece of wood has a story worth telling. Whether it’s a cutting board made from an old barn beam or a wine stopper crafted from a fallen tree, the company’s work transforms seemingly ordinary pieces of wood into lasting memories. Daniel continues to offer custom orders, allowing customers to select the specific wood they want for their projects, ensuring each item is as personal as it is unique. The business prides itself on taking the time to understand the history behind the wood, and in doing so, creates objects that carry emotional significance far beyond their functionality. “We’re not just crafting wooden objects; we’re creating heirlooms,” Daniel added. “The people who purchase from us are investing in something that will last for generations. It’s a way to carry a piece of history forward.” About Rescued Wood Rescued Wood is an artisan woodworking company based in Eastford, Connecticut, that specializes in transforming abandoned, locally sourced wood into handcrafted, functional works of art. Founded by Daniel Merlo, the business is dedicated to preserving the history of the wood and its connection to the community, while providing sustainable and unique pieces for homes and businesses. From wooden bowls to custom furniture, Rescued Wood’s creations offer a beautiful blend of artistry, history, and sustainability. The recently completed five-artist, five-mural Bien Mexa campaign represents Bankaool’s ongoing commitment to support emerging Mexican artists and celebrate the cultural heritage that defines Mexican identity. Since their unveiling, the vibrant murals have generated significant social media engagement from locals and tourists alike. Thousands of people have shared their comments on these striking visual statements of national pride, highlighting the perfect blend of Mexican food, music, folk art, and life into the murals. According to Moises Chaves, President of Bankaool, the murals have become instant hits with the public as people spare their time to stop and appreciate the artistry. “We are pleased to launch yet another art project that turns artistry into a living network that brings artists, spaces, and the public together.” The recently completed series features five exceptionally talented artists whose distinct styles and perspectives come together to celebrate creativity, resilience, and identity with murals that move to the rhythm of Mexico. Mar Maremoto, a visual artist from Mexico City, known for neon palettes, energetic strokes, and compositions that merge graffiti, pop culture, and Mexican humor, is the first artist featured in the Bien Mexas campaign. Her mural installation at Colima 85 in Colonial Roma captures the essence of the capital, including nopales, tacos, and metro cars. The second artist, Alejandra Ballesteros, brings her hyper-colorful, playful, character-filled style to life at Liverpool 179 in Colonia Juarez. Her mural, which is focused on lucha libre, depicts a vibrant female wrestler to symbolize strength, resilience, and Mexican pride through every detail. At Durango 148 in Colonia Roma Norte, stands a mural that continues the lucha libre motif. The mural by Jimena Estibaliz incorporates her signature blend of feminine figures, natural symbolism, vivid colors, and humanoid motifs. It features a striking jaguar-headed figure, a wrestler, and a woman, highlighting identity, collective strength, and feminine energy. Smithe’s contribution delivers a monumental mural that evokes Dia de Muertos. The urban muralist, whose graphic style merges contemporary visual language with Mexican symbolism, features symbolic figures, skulls, and urban strokes that bridge tradition and modernity while celebrating the deeply Mexican duality of life and death. The Bien Mexa campaign reached far beyond Mexico City into Chihuahua. Artist Maga Rey, known for infusing mysticism, bold colors, and cultural symbols into her work, created two murals in the state capital. The two pieces, located at Club Deportivo Britania, feature 100% Chihuahuan elements, including desert plants, a raramuri woman, a cowboy representing rural life, a space honoring Dia de Muertos, and the world-renowned ceramics of the Mata Ortiz community. With this Bien Mexa spirit-infused collection of murals across Mexico City and Chihuahua, Artbank, and by extension Bankaool, is expanding support for emerging artists and bringing world-class public art to communities throughout Mexico and global audiences via social media. The just completed Bien Mexa campaign solidifies Artbank’s role as an incubator of Mexican art and a catalyst for cultural development across the country. “By showcasing emerging artists and transforming public spaces into art pieces, we are fostering pride in our shared heritage and providing a platform for creative voices to be heard,” added Moises Chaves. “We are incredibly proud of the artists that took part in the Bien Mexa campaign and their amazing work.” For more information or to view the mural collections, visit Artbank and follow the art platform on Instagram . FLY Miami Art Announces Evolution from Nostalgia to Love in Action
FLY Miami Art, the artistic practice of Facundo L. Yebne, known professionally as FLY, is proud to announce the formal integration of LOVE as the central thematic focus of its public and private art installations for 2026. This evolution marks a new chapter in FLY’s artistic journey, reinforcing a commitment to use art as a tool for unity, connection, and emotional expression on a global scale. What began as a deeply personal journey rooted in grief has grown into a transformative body of work that transcends the playful origins of the rubber duck. Through monumental sculptures, immersive installations, and limited-edition artworks, FLY Miami Art has redefined public art by transforming a nostalgic childhood symbol into a powerful message of love, resilience, and community. The rubber duck, once a simple object of joy and innocence, now carries universal meaning as a symbol of healing, connection, and hope. From Nostalgia to Love in Action FLY’s journey with rubber ducks started during a period of personal loss, with the artist drawn to their association with innocence and joy. Initially, the rubber duck served as a comforting symbol, a link to happier memories and a source of hope. However, over time, the artist realized the broader potential of the rubber duck to convey deeper, more profound emotional messages. This realization transformed FLY Miami Art into a practice that uses the rubber duck to express the themes of love, togetherness, and resilience. The shift from nostalgia to a contemporary language of love and social connection is at the heart of FLY’s art. The rubber duck, once an object of childhood play, has been elevated to a symbol capable of carrying emotional weight and communicating universal messages of unity. This evolution marks a defining moment in the development of FLY Miami Art, where nostalgia becomes a gateway to larger cultural and emotional conversations. Monumental Installations That Speak to the Heart Among FLY Miami Art’s most significant works is UnityBeak , a monumental public installation that was commissioned by Lincoln Road and the City of Miami Beach. Constructed from over 14,000 rubber ducks, the sculpture depicts two giant rubber ducks standing side by side in a gentle kiss, symbolizing the idea that strength lays in the numbers and unity rather than isolation. UnityBeak has become a landmark on Lincoln Road, stopping pedestrians in their tracks and inviting them to reflect on connection in an increasingly divided world. Another defining work is Proud Love , a ten-foot heart sculpture created from nearly 7,000 rubber ducks. Installed in Miami Beach, this piece has become an iconic symbol of inclusive love and visibility, particularly embraced by the LGBTQ+ community. More than just a visual statement, Proud Love affirms that love is something to be seen, celebrated, and shared openly. It stands as a testament to the power of love to bring people together, create visibility, and foster a sense of belonging. A Philosophy of Collective Experience and Social Impact The power of FLY Miami Art lies not only in its visual appeal but in its participatory nature. These works invite people to engage emotionally, physically, and collectively, turning public spaces into meeting points where art becomes a shared experience. This participatory approach fosters a sense of community, belonging, and collective ownership over the message of unity and love that FLY’s art seeks to convey. In addition to its public installations, FLY Miami Art has extended its reach into private collections with collectible artworks. Yebne creates limited edition wall pieces using tiny resin ducks, and resin over wooden canvases, translating the emotional language of his public art into intimate formats. His works have been exhibited at major platforms during Miami Art Week, including Art Miami, Context Art Miami, Spectrum Miami, and Aqua Art Miami. International Recognition and the Power of Art for Change In 2025, Yebne received significant international recognition when he was awarded Fourth Prize in Installation Art at the XV Florence Biennale. This prestigious award, presented at the Biennale Internazionale d’Arte Contemporanea e Design in Florence, Italy, recognized the conceptual strength and execution of FLY’s large-scale installations. The honor positioned FLY Miami Art within the global contemporary art dialogue, solidifying its impact and relevance in the art world. Philanthropy has always been at the core of FLY Miami Art’s mission. Through collaborations and donations, Yebne actively supports organizations that focus on LGBTQ+ advocacy, youth empowerment, and community wellbeing. His work serves as both an artistic expression and a tool for raising awareness, healing, and creating positive social impact. LOVE: The Guiding Force for 2026 and Beyond Looking ahead, FLY Miami Art has adopted LOVE as the central branding and conceptual direction for the practice in 2026. This evolution reflects a refined focus on love as an active force, one that goes beyond a passive emotion. As FLY Miami Art continues to grow, the practice will remain centered on the belief that love is foundational to connection, visibility, and resilience. Future works will align under this unifying principle, furthering the mission of creating iconic public art that connects people across cultural and geographical boundaries. About FLY Miami Art FLY Miami Art is the artistic practice of Facundo L. Yebne, an artist known for transforming rubber ducks from childhood nostalgia into powerful symbols of love, unity, and social connection. The practice began as a personal journey of healing and has evolved into a globally recognized body of work that explores themes of inclusivity, resilience, and community. Through large-scale sculptures, participatory installations, and collectible artworks, FLY Miami Art aims to create emotional, transformative experiences that foster belonging and connection. Brett Campbell Announces 2026 Art Recommendations, Featuring Top U.S. and International Artists and Galleries
Bringing Art Together Through Social Media With over 500,000 followers, Brett Campbell has established himself as a trusted voice in the art world. He provides a unique and authentic approach to art recommendations, based on his personal relationships with artists and galleries, as well as his direct interactions with collectors. He doesn’t just share beautiful pieces — he shares the stories behind the works, offering insight into the motivations and emotions that drive the artists. By doing so, he educates his audience and offers a curated selection of art that goes beyond aesthetics and speaks to the soul. Brett’s Recommendations for 2026 Brett’s recommendations for 2026 focus on both established and emerging artists, as he believes there is great upside potential for both, as these artists represent emerging trends, cultural norms, and societal expectations during a period in history that is in great flux. As a collector and influencer, Brett’s mission is to help connect artists and galleries with collectors who understand the deeper significance of the work, not just its aesthetic appeal. Art is about more than beauty — it’s about evoking emotions, sparking dialogue, and challenging the status quo. In Brett’s view, art forces us to engage with a moment in time, to share in the soul of the artist, and to challenge history as it’s shaped by the opinions of critics. Whether established or emerging, the artists and galleries in Brett’s recommendations are creating work that speaks to these cultural and societal shifts. Collectors can find pieces that resonate with them on a deeply personal level, whether through visual impact or the energy behind the work itself. As Brett says, “The energy that comes from the soul of the artist and the subject matter of the time will ultimately create the energy of your home.” Brett’s focus is on helping collectors get to know the artist and, in doing so, get to know themselves. A home absorbs the energy of the art within it, creating a space of individuality, peace, and sanctum. Art should be something that reflects who you are and what is important to you, helping to create a living space that feels deeply personal. U.S. Artists Brett’s recommended U.S. artists for 2026 include Stephen Vollo, Dan Witz, Vincent Giarrano, John Lange, Lorra Kurtz, Michael Massaia, Charles Levier, Adam Trest, Max Seckel, Michele Melcher, Leeah Joo, Hunt Slonem, Brian Cobbel, E2 (Elizabeth Kleinveld and Epaul Julien), Scott Sanders, David Harouni, Tony and Tracy Mose, Daniel Martin Diaz, Amy Shekther, Karen Schremmer, Karen Ocker, Ashley Longshore, Shirley Rabe Masinter, Ashly Griffith, Jesse Poimboeuf, and Holly Susanne Radar. International Galleries Brett’s recommended international galleries for 2026 include Enter Gallery, Art Space and Design Gallery, The Rose Gallery, The Lemongrove Gallery, Clarendon Fine Art, Gallery Poulsen, Maddox Gallery, and Stolen Space Gallery. From Personal Art Experience to Global Influence What truly distinguishes Brett Campbell from other influencers is his genuine, heartfelt engagement with the art world. His recommendations come from a place of deep personal understanding, built on years of experience and direct connections with artists and galleries. Brett believes that art is more than just a decorative object — it is a conversation, a challenge to the status quo, and a reflection of both the artist and the times in which we live. His role is to connect collectors with the soul of the artists and the stories behind their work, helping them find pieces that speak to their own identities and the energy they wish to cultivate in their homes. "I believe in the power of art to connect people on a deeper level," Brett says. "My goal is to bring visibility to the incredible talent that exists in every corner of the world. Art is not just about the piece itself; it’s about the story behind it and the emotions it evokes." Join the Conversation Brett’s role as both a collector and influencer is shaping the future of art discovery. His upcoming 2026 recommendations will highlight top artists and galleries worldwide, offering a curated reference for collectors and art enthusiasts alike. As Brett moves from art collector to art collaborator, his mission is clear: to foster a deeper understanding of art by connecting collectors with the very soul of the artists behind the works. James Cameron cautions generative AI, praises the power of cinema at HIIFF masterclass
Legendary director James Cameron voiced concerns about generative AI and the possible use of the technology to replace real actors at the 7th Hainan Island International Film Festival in Sanya, Hainan province on Dec. 9. Filmmaker James Cameron speaks at a masterclass during the 7th Hainan Island International Film Festival in Sanya, Hainan province, Dec. 9, 2025. [Photo courtesy of The Walt Disney Company] As the director of "The Terminator," a film which once envisioned artificial intelligence and a doomsday-like disaster, Cameron now faces the reality of the technology he imagined, and approaches it with caution. "I think we have to decide what technology is going to be useful as artists and what technology might compromise us as artists," he said. To make a clear distinction, he said the performance-capture technology used on his films allows for a more authentic and emotional result, noting that the upcoming "Avatar: Fire and Ash," is probably the most emotional of the three "Avatar" movies to date, a feat that makes his team very proud. "On the other extreme we have new technology that's emerging, using a generative AI where we can completely replace actors, maybe using large language models we can replace writers," he said. "I'm not personally interested in using those tools. I'm not personally interested in any pathway that uses the technology to replace human creativity." He conceded that generative AI is developing quickly and can help improve workflow, efficiency, and creativity, as long as it adheres to a very high ethical, moral, and practical standard. He said the technology makes it highly possible to replace an actor. However, "I wouldn't do it, but it may be possible practically," he said. "But is it desirable?" "Does it create that unique character that is basically a meld of two sets of unique human experiences?" he asked. "One is the screenwriter experiencing life in a very unique way, while the actor is bringing their life experience, things that have happened to them, the feelings that they felt, their hurt, their heartbreak, their love, their joy, all of the things that they've gone through." He argued that uniqueness is core to art, stating a model trained on everything cannot be unique, as it produces only the average or the mediocre, not the special. It also cannot create something never seen before. For example, he said, a generative model can easily produce something that looks like "Avatar," but it could not have done so before the original film existed. "Ask that model to do it before 'Avatar' existed. It's going to draw a blank. So, it fundamentally still comes back to human creativity," he said. Cameron then addressed the theatrical experience, acknowledging that while many cinema lovers value it, viewing habits are changing. He noted that streaming has captured much of the former theater audience by offering immediate, convenient access. He went on to talk about the psychological impact of short-form content on audiences and their attention spans. He also clarified that cinemas provide something the home cannot, saying the communal experience and unique moments like a shared laughter are incomparable. "I think these days when we're distracted by a lot of short-form media, short videos and so on, and also even when we're streaming, we have a remote, we can make anything a short video. We can pause it, go out, talk to somebody, maybe scroll a bit, do multi-screen, talk to our friends. Everything is coming in a fragmented way or in a short-attention-span mode. How do we counter that? Go to the movies," he said. He described the deliberate choice and preparations of going to the cinema as imposing a focused engagement with the screen. He contrasted this with viewing at home, stating the theatrical experience offers a deeper and more profound focus because it commands sustained emotional investment, without the option to pause or get distracted. "I would say I want to continue to make movies that are seen at least first in the movie theater because it'll be a deeper experience," he said. He stressed that the viewing of a film, especially in 3D, heightens the senses and engages more of the brain, revealing details that would otherwise be missed. He noted that the intricate world of the Avatar films is built on such detail, sometimes requiring a second viewing to appreciate it fully. "Movies are simulators for things that might happen in our lives," Cameron said. "Joy, love, tragedy, loss, death, all of the things, all of the human experience. We can go into a movie theater and we can go through a simulation of that and we can feel something, and know that our feelings are working... And maybe prepare ourselves mentally for something that might happen in our life. There's no way to create that experience through any other medium." Cameron was in Sanya for the China premiere of his film "Avatar: Fire and Ash," which received overwhelmingly positive reviews on Dec. 8 for its action, grandeur, emotion and imagination. It will open nationwide on Dec. 19. He called the phenomenal success of the Avatar films a result of a timeless story that exists outside any specific country or culture, while remaining universal and relevant in the world today.

RED ART PROJECT Brings a Global Exploration of Red to Geneva During Art Genève
USIA (United State of International Artists), a Lisbon-based art brand founded by Francisco Lacerda in 2009, is proud to announce the launch of the RED ART PROJECT, an international group exhibition at Artium Gallery in Geneva. The exhibition will run from January 27 to February 1, 2026, held at the same time of the prestigious Art Genève art fair. Curated by Francisco Lacerda, the RED ART PROJECT invites audiences to experience the color red through its multifaceted emotional, cultural, political, and spiritual dimensions. Geneva, known for its vibrant cultural landscape, serves as the perfect venue for this cross-border dialogue, bringing together a diverse group of Swiss and international artists. The exhibition showcases the diversity of contemporary approaches to red. Hélène Zuckschwerdt presents alabaster sculptures in which red emerges through sensuality and the strength of the material, while Richard Rohart combines wood and plexiglass to create works of striking tactile and visual depth. Eliane Muller investigates the emotional and spiritual aspects of red through expressive painting, and Maria João Vale captures it in photographic moments connected to identity, memory, and presence. Mélanie Jost layers resin, wood, acrylic, quartz crystal, and citrine to produce multidimensional works where red becomes a vital, transformative force, while Daniel Schär bridges visual art and music, exploring red’s resonance through rhythm and vibration. In Victoria Menezes Miller’s The Red Cheetah, red’s emotional power is further explored: a boldly crimson background frames a cheetah standing proudly, both fierce and defiant. Annika Döring immerses viewers in a series of red clouds set against dramatic skies and sunsets, evoking romance and intensity. Claudia Abdelghafar presents two figurative works with contrasting meanings: one evokes Bran Castle in Transylvania and the blood of vampires, while the other transports the viewer to Venice, where red suggests warmth, softness, and light. Adélia Clavien describes red as “the fire of passion,” Ursula Vargas highlights its ambivalent nature between life and aggression, and Teresa Martins examines its sensory impact through abstraction. Miguel Martins, moving fluidly between figuration and abstraction, links his works to the prehistoric art of Altamira and explores red as a symbol of life, creation, and transformation. His paintings, including From Shadow to Light, Emerging Red and Red Thrill, capture movement, vitality, and the tension between matter and light. Complementing these visual works, the original text by the late Portuguese writer Clara Pinto Correia adds a poetic and narrative layer, weaving memory, mythology, and identity around the color red. RED ART PROJECT is an international initiative by USIA that, through color, connects artists, collectors, and audiences, fostering an open, cross-border artistic dialogue.
