Couples Rehabs works with many — addiction treatment centers across the United States. They report that the State of Washington has seen a rise in unhealthy activity.
A recent report found that alcohol purchases in Washington state have soared in the wake of a worsening coronavirus pandemic, raising growing concerns about the impact of alcohol and drug use on public health and safety. In 2018, deaths from alcohol and overdose among young adults rose for the first time in two decades. Although the figures for 2018 are still worryingly high, they are the lowest since 1999, when the current data collection began, and, according to the report, no more than twice as many deaths as in the previous two years combined.
Twenty-three states and the District of Columbia recorded fewer deaths from alcohol, drugs and suicide over the same period. In 2018, there were more than twice as many deaths from alcohol and drugs in Washington state as in the previous two years, but COVID-19 has produced more issues with substance abuse and mental health issues.
Since marijuana laws were changed in Washington in 2012, the number of cases filed has dropped dramatically. The report found that overdose deaths increased by 9% between 2012 and 2018, while states like Colorado and Kentucky saw increases of about 30% over the same period. Washington has led the nation in reforming marijuana laws, including fully legalizing adult use since 2012 with the passage of Initiative 502.
The coronavirus or COVID-19 has forced many people to stay home from their jobs or have been let go due to the pandemic. Nationally more than 81,000 died from an overdose last year, these figures are up from the prior year. There are addiction treatment programs available for those in need of help. To learn more, find a local health care provider or the Washington Alcohol and Drug Abuse Resource Center. The Washington State University Health and Human Services (HHS) is a national leader in promoting understanding of alcohol and drug abuse in the United States and applying this knowledge to improve individual and public health. They are a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Science in Public Health (NASH) and have ties to the American College of Physicians and Surgeons and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Washington State will pay for drug abuse and alcoholism treatment, which is organized in combination with treatment of addiction disorders for alcoholics and the Apple program for alcoholics and addicts without financial means. Passage of the Treatment and Recovery Act would help transform policing in Washington by taking a public health problem out of the hands of law enforcement and providing additional resources to assist people. The research team used these findings to lead research funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), the US Department of Health and other federal agencies. Couples Rehabs has seen a strong link in the United States between drug use, alcohol abuse and dependence.
