-- Global Art Culture-USA successfully hosted an International Cultural Concert in Washington, D.C., bringing together diverse forms of artistic expression and fostering dialogue across cultures. The event received official recognition from H.E. Ambassador Dr. Tiffany Lancaster, Commissioner for the D.C. Mayor’s Office on African Affairs, as well as the D.C. Mayor’s Office on African Affairs , highlighting recognition of the organization’s efforts to promote international cultural exchange and cross-border artistic dialogue.
With the theme “Art Without Borders, Mutual Learning Among Civilizations,” the event sought to promote cultural dialogue, mutual understanding, and collaboration through the arts. The program brought together numerous talented artists and creators, including Dr. Boya Li, Dr. Xi Lu, Ma Danyi, Xu Ziwei, Zhang Shanshan, Zhang Qingzhou, Liu Zhaocheng, Xu Jingyi, Zhao Jiayi, and many others.

Through music, poetry, contemporary dance, visual art, and other forms of artistic expression, the participants presented an immersive artistic experience that transcended traditional boundaries between artistic disciplines and cultural traditions.
One of the highlights of the concert was a contemporary and international exploration of the traditional Chinese pentatonic scale. Rather than being limited to traditional Chinese instruments, the artists incorporated electronic synthesizers, Western orchestral instruments, and environmental sound sampling to deconstruct and reinterpret the musical structures of Gong, Shang, Jue, Zhi and Yu. These musical elements were further integrated with dynamic visual projections inspired by the traditional Chinese Five Elements concept.
This innovative approach offered international audiences unfamiliar with traditional Chinese musical theory a more intuitive experience of the balance, harmony, and cultural philosophy embedded in the Chinese pentatonic system, making it one of the distinctive segments of the evening.
Renowned Scholar of Traditional Chinese Culture Joins Remotely to Share Traditional Wisdom
As a specially invited intellectual guest, Master Pak-Lam, a renowned scholar of traditional Chinese culture, was unable to attend the event in person but joined the program remotely via a high-definition video link and delivered a presentation to audiences and artists in Washington, D.C.
His presentation, titled “Confluence of Origins: The Role of Traditional Chinese Culture in Contemporary Transnational Art Exchanges,” explored the role and contemporary relevance of traditional Chinese culture in international artistic exchange.
Drawing on the traditional Chinese philosophy of “harmony without uniformity,” Master Pak-Lam emphasized that traditional Chinese culture should not be regarded merely as a static cultural heritage, but as a living and dynamic source of inspiration that can continue to inform contemporary artistic creation and cross-cultural dialogue.
Following the presentation, the on-site host engaged with Dr. Boya Li, Dr. Xi Lu, and other international artists on behalf of Master Pak-Lam. The participants continued discussions on issues raised during his presentation, including the question of how non-Western aesthetic systems can be organically integrated into contemporary artistic creation.
Master Pak-Lam’s remote participation brought a distinctive perspective rooted in traditional Chinese philosophy and cultural history to the Washington, D.C. event, adding further depth to the artistic and cultural dialogue.
Diverse Artistic Expressions Create an Immersive Cultural Experience
The event went beyond the conventional format of a concert. Alongside the main-stage performances, a solo exhibition by artist Liao Weichang was also held at the venue.
His works skillfully combined the expressive spirit of traditional Eastern ink painting with the textures and techniques of Western mixed-media art, creating a visual dialogue that complemented the performances on stage and further enriched the audience’s artistic experience.
Students affiliated with the studios of Dr. He Sicheng, Dr. Xu Yangwei, Dr. Xu Xuansong and Dr. Yu Xiaohang also presented a vibrant group performance. Inspired by the rich cultural exchange taking place throughout the event, they presented a choral work incorporating musical elements from several national traditions.
The performance, marked by sincere emotion and refined artistic skills, received warm and sustained applause from the audience.
At the conclusion of the event, all participating performers received honorary certificates and specially designed commemorative medals in recognition of their contributions to international understanding and cultural exchange.
