Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water, the first triple bottom line premium water of its kind, partnered with The Culinary Vegetable Institute at their third annual Roots Conference on Sept. 22 in an effort to raise awareness and incite change within the world’s fractured food system. As the only sustainable and certified CarbonNeutral® premium bottled water, Waiakea was proud to be the official sponsor. —
For the third consecutive year, the culinary industry’s most lauded chefs and visionaries came together to discuss important ways to improve sustainability, health, and tradition within the culinary industry. This year, the conference focused on “action,” as top chefs, farmers, academics, food scientists, and foodies partook in a series of presentations and culinary activities aimed at inciting positive change. As a proud sponsor of the event, Waiakea not only quenched the thirst of event attendees, but also acted as an example of change in their own right, as they introduced a progressive new recycling program.
“Every bottle of water consumed at the Roots Conference resulted in zero waste,” said Ryan Emmons, president and founder of Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water. “All empty bottles were recycled and reused into our award winning, BPA-free, 100 percent RPET bottles, garnering a 95 percent smaller CO2 footprint than other bottles.”
However, as much as Waiakea has been noted for its sustainable practices, progressive eco-initiatives, and charitable enterprises, the bottled water brand is also among the most healthful and tasty water sources available. Waiakea’s distinctive taste and terroir has made it a favorite of foodies around the world and has also earned the brand a wide array of high profile awards.
“Our product is sustainably sourced from one of the most pristine aquifers in the world,” said Emmons. “Because it is naturally alkaline and electrolyte-rich, it offers a distinctively soft and smooth mouthfeel, making it an excellent choice for food pairings.”
Move over vino—this week, attendees of the Roots Conference paired their culinary masterpieces with eco-friendly Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water instead.
