The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) has announced the winners of its “Capturing Nature’s Masterpieces: Wildlife Photography Contest”. The competition received an overwhelming response, with over 1,000 entries submitted. After careful consideration by a star-studded panel of judges, the winners have been selected. Towngas will choose some of the outstanding winning photos to create a commemorative stamp pack, which will be released on 15 August, “National Ecology Day”, to showcase the beauty of nature to the public. The Company will also hold a symposium on the same day to promote collaboration among various sectors in strengthening biodiversity protection and developing new energy application solutions.

Mr Felix Lee Kin-ming, Towngas Head of Group ESG / Head of Group Corporate Affairs, served as one of the judges for the photo contest. He said, “Towngas deeply understands that natural ecology and human life are inextricably linked, and we must protect biodiversity. The large number of entries received, including precious photos of endangered or regionally unique species, reflects the public’s awareness for biodiversity topics and appreciation for the invaluable natural ecology, just like Towngas, which is a very encouraging sign.”

He added, “Towngas and its subsidiary, Towngas Smart Energy Company Limited, will hold the Biodiversity and New Energies Symposium on 15 August this year. The Symposium will convene experts from the business, academic, and conservation sectors to engage in discussions on biodiversity protection and the development and application of new energy sources. This aligns with the HKSAR Government’s Green Transport Schemes and the country’s advocacy for building an ecological civilisation.”

On the day of the Symposium, Towngas will issue a commemorative stamp pack featuring 12 stamps, with photos selected from the winning entries of the wildlife photography contest. Participants captured lives in the sea, on land and in the air in the Greater China region through their lenses, showcasing the unique and rich biodiversity within the region. The commemorative stamp pack also reviews Towngas’ sustained progress in carbon reduction over the years, demonstrating the Company’s determination to transform into a green, low-carbon energy supplier. This pack features a distinctive theme and creative design, making it a treasured collectible for both philatelists and the general public alike.

Towngas attaches great importance to environmental protection and is committed to building a sustainable future. The Company actively explores new energy businesses, including using end-of-life tyres as an alternative to fossil fuels to produce green methanol for the shipping industry. The Company has also begun providing hydrogen to customers through its underground pipeline network in Hong Kong, suitable for generating electricity with hydrogen fuel cells. In addition, EcoCeres, Inc., incubated by Towngas, uses waste vegetable oil and animal fats to produce sustainable aviation fuel, providing an environmentally friendly energy solution for the aviation industry.

Towngas has already reached out to the winners of the “Capturing Nature’s Masterpieces: Wildlife Photography Contest”. The complete list of winners can be found on Towngas’ official Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/hktowngas.
