UK quick property sale advisory website — Ready Steady Sell recently conducted a survey to over 250,000 homeowners simply asking them who they intend to vote for in the general election on 12 December 2019. The 250,000 homeowners who expressed an interest in selling their home over the last 12 months had very conclusive results, and shockingly the Labour Party was the lowest voted party amongst the selection.
Out of 250,000 asked only 132,000 answered the survey, however the results were conclusive. Less than 12% of the 132,000 said they would be voting for the Labour party in the next general election, the lowest amongst all of the available selections.
The results in England and Wales were as follows:
• 52% said they would be voting Conservative.
• 12% said they would be voting Brexit Party.
• 12% said they would be voting Labour.
• 5% said they would be voting Liberal Democrats.
The results shockingly show that the average UK homeowner has a certain amount of distrust for the Labour Party or feels that the policies presented by the Labour Party will have a negative effect on them.
Ready Steady Sell director David Sessford had this to say on the results: “We don’t support any particular party, and we asked this question out of interest exclusively to homeowners who have expressed an interest in selling their home in the last 12 months through our website. The results are conclusive from our select audience, and whatever the Labour party manifesto states, it’s not sitting well with our website visitors.”
Labour party have suggested a progressive property tax to replace council tax which could be an underlining factor in the findings – as well as a proposed garden tax which would affect homeowners with larger than average gardens.
Sessford continued: “The demographics of our website visitors are generally aged 36 plus, own one or more properties and have an average value of £200,000. Perhaps Labour voters don’t fit within this demographic; however, I feel this equates to a large proportion on society.”
The SNP did well in Scotland with 15% of the overall UK poll. As we all know polls can be wrong and have proved to be inaccurate in the past. However, if this is a small snapshot of what homeowners are thinking – Labour have their work cut out.
Sessford concluded: “We’ve had Brexit looming for over 3 years now, and this has definitely held homeowners off selling and buying. With the Conservatives pushing for an end to Brexit, this could be the underlying factors as to why they are gaining so much support.”
