This gives Gini end-to-end control of consumer experience, reducing its reliance on other DNA testing service providers. It also addresses privacy concerns and the company does not share or sell data unlike other companies in this space. Gini’s mission is to accelerate human evolution by increasing healthspan and lifespan and the company’s mobile app is a first-of-a-kind DNA based personal assistant for nutrition and wellness.
“I lost my friend Tarun to gastrointestinal cancer at only 28. That event set things in motion.” said Gurjot, CEO and Co-Founder of Gini Health “I started scribbling the biggest illnesses plaguing mankind on my wall. Heart diseases, cancer, diabetes and other chronic diseases all came up in the list of top ten. After talking to doctors and scientists, I realized that most of these chronic diseases are preventable. So if it’s preventable, why is it so hard? My hypothesis was that the underlying issue was nutrition and lifestyle. It wasn’t personalized enough. And I decided to create Gini to solve that problem.”
While millions around the world have had their DNA tested by services like 23andMe and Ancestry.com, most have no clue as to how they can put their personal genetic information to work to help achieve optimal health and longevity. These users can now use Gini’s mobile app to access their nutrigenetic reports and take preventative action.
“People take a general approach to food and nutrition. We are all genetically and biochemically different, and this means that nutrition and diet also needs to be personalized. This is one of the fundamental reasons why generalized diets work for some, but not for others. We want to help people understand and learn about their own genes.” said Gurjot.
Gini’s mobile app started with Gene Stories and health features which gave users a story-based approach to learning about their risks and gene-nutrition-health relationships. Gini Lens, the world’s first personalized genetic nutrition label is very popular with current users ― a feature that enables users to layer their unique genetic information on top of any food that they search for. “Our app has received great feedback from early adopters. They find our reports highly accurate and we have over 6000 downloads with 25-30% of our users returning week over week to engage with our app.” said Gurjot.
