In a display of sweet support, the office of Stang Family Orthodontics donated in November more than 400 pounds of candy to Operation Gratitude, a California-based non-profit dedicated to providing care packages for deployed military personnel and their families back home.It was the third consecutive holiday season that Stang Family Orthodontics held the candy drive for the troops' benefit.
"Every year, the holiday season brings us a fantastic opportunity to help," said Dr. Christine F. Stang, DDS, MSD, the founder of Stang Family Orthodontics. "Through our partnership with the great folks at Operation Gratitude, our office helps kids by removing the temptation of so much Halloween candy, and helps our troops and their families by letting them enjoy it for Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas. It's a win-win."
Through the office’s various social-media outlets and word-of-mouth among its patients, Stang Family Orthodontics requested donations of unwanted candy. Over a two-week span, more than a fifth of a ton was amassed. All candy collected was promptly donated to Operation Gratitude.
Stang Family Orthodontics will make a donation to the Parent-Teacher Association of the school attended by the child whose family donated the most candy.
