An event record, 50,000 children from over 1,000 cities are expected to participate in the 2018 Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run. Taking off in New York, the four-month torch-relay begins on April 10th. The 11,000-mile course is designed to follow a route that will link Mexico, Canada, and the US before arriving back in New York mid-August.This relay run is unique, as runners will be stopping along the route to visit schools and youth organizations to share the torch and give presentations about how peace begins in each of our hearts and the power of oneness of humankind. Devised to encourage kids to explore and reflect on what peace means to them the program aims to remove cultural boundaries and achieve harmony in diversity. The Peace Run will build skills and character that benefit children of all ages and abilities.
In addition to the thousands of runners traversing the North American course, 100 countries worldwide are organizing similar events. In February, the 16,000-mile European relay began in Bulgaria and will finish this October in Portugal.
Since 1987, over 150 nations have supported the Peace Run’s aspiration of achieving world peace. Over the years, acclamations have also come from beloved idols worldwide including Pope Francis, President Nelson Mandela, President Mikhail Gorbachev, and Mother Teresa.
