Southwestern College ( — http://swc.edu) has a long-standing history of working to improve not only the experiences of their students, but also the lives of the people in and around Santa Fe. Community lectures and the Southwest Counseling center are just two of the ways that the college has worked to better the area, and new series of Art Workshops expands the reach and assistance available. Workshops are held once a month, and focus on a different topic each time.
“We’re looking forward to bringing the people of Santa Fe this opportunity to experience the diversity of artistic creation and how it can aid in healing practices,” says college President, Dr. Jim Nolan, of the initiative.
Workshops are led by faculty, students and alumni, and cover a range of specialties. Classes could focus on a single technique or cover a broader Art Therapy directive. The goal of the program is to foster community while expanding the artistic repertoire of the attendees and greater area.
Most of the workshops are open to all ages and no previous experience is necessary, a donation is requested for attendance. Licensed Art Therapists and Counselors are eligible to earn CEUs from participation in many of the classes. Registration can be made by calling (917) 626-5360 or visiting http://swc.edu/home/art_workshops.
