-- Turkish fashion designer Sedef Biricik has been awarded first place in the couture category of an international design competition organized in connection with the introduction of Amtrak’s NextGen Acela trains.
The competition, conducted in collaboration with students from the New York School of Design, aimed to connect transportation innovation with contemporary fashion design. Participants were invited to create garments that reflect the themes of movement, comfort, and modern travel.
Biricik’s winning design was presented during a fashion showcase held alongside New York Fashion Week. The work was evaluated by a jury composed of fashion professionals and industry representatives, who assessed entries based on innovation, wearability, material selection, and conceptual alignment.

The project, known as the “Trak Suit,” explored how travel experiences can be translated into fashion. Designers were tasked with creating both ready-to-wear and couture pieces that reinterpret the aesthetics of rail travel through contemporary design.
