-- In response to key findings in the 2024 SAWS (San Antonio Water System) Water Quality Report, o5 Plumbing is launching a community-focused initiative to help residents better understand what’s really in their tap water - and what steps they can take to protect their homes and families.
Although the report confirms there were no federal violations, o5 Plumbing’s analysis highlights contaminants that exceed levels known to pose health risks, even if they don’t trigger regulatory action. Meanwhile, over 19 billion gallons of water were lost last year due to leaks and outdated infrastructure, contributing to sediment, mineral buildup, and inconsistent water quality across neighborhoods.
“Many people assume clear water means clean water, but that’s not always the case,” says Chris Metzger, owner of o5 Plumbing. “Even if the water meets EPA standards, secondary contaminants like hardness, iron, and pH imbalance can lead to real issues - shortened appliance lifespans, plumbing damage, and even skin or hair irritation.”
To help homeowners take control of their water quality, o5 Plumbing is offering a free water testing program and educational resources that translate complex water quality data into easy-to-understand, actionable insights.
The initiative includes:
- The release of “What’s Really in Your Water?”, a simplified guide to understanding contaminants and their impact
- Guidance on customized home solutions such as water softeners, filtration systems, and leak detection tools
- A free on-site water quality test, measuring hardness, iron levels, and pH balance
o5 Plumbing’s campaign isn’t about fear - it’s about awareness and empowerment. Many of the issues they highlight stem from “secondary contaminants” that don’t violate regulations but still affect everyday life.
“As a veteran-owned business serving communities from Stone Oak to New Braunfels, we’re here to educate and offer solutions - not just identify problems,” adds Metzger. “It’s about protecting both your investment and your peace of mind.”
The company’s new guide and testing services are available now for residents across fourteen Greater San Antonio communities. Homeowners can schedule a free test or download the guide by visiting o5plumbing.com or calling 210-905-4380.
