Jack, who survived several risky surgeries, leaves a legacy of love and devotion behind.

-- Mina Ebrahimi, CEO of Saint Germain Catering, and the entire SGC family regret to announce the passing of Jack, Mina’s beloved chocolate Lab. He had become a mascot for the catering company over the last several years, and the entire catering team is saddened by his passing.

Jack’s early life with Mina Ebrahimi was met with several challenges. In 2003, he was diagnosed with a liver shunt, a congenital problem in which the liver is deprived of an adequate blood supply and therefore cannot develop properly. It was at this time Mina found out about a new surgical procedure being performed at Penn Vet’s Ryan Hospital by Dr. Chick Weisse. While the operation was a success, Jack experienced severe complications following the surgery, and he remained under the care of the skilled doctors, primarily Dr. Allyson Berent at Penn Vet, for the next year.

Forever grateful for the compassion and skilled medical treatment provided by the doctors, Ebrahimi’s catering company, Saint Germain Catering, has held numerous fundraisers to support the ongoing efforts of the hospital. Money raised helps Penn Vet conduct new research towards advanced medical procedures and develop new technology for healing other cherished family pets.

With Saint Germain Catering’s support, Penn Vet has been able to purchase much-needed radiology equipment and anesthesia supplies, as well as conduct innovative research into stem cell therapies. Funds donated by SGC have also supported Penn Vet’s Working Dog Center, which serves as a training and development center for detection dogs. Ebrahimi has also promoted Penn Vet’s mission and efforts through social media and press releases and has hosted several events in the facility’s name. Mina’s devotion to Jack and her other dogs is undeniable. “They saved me, and I’ll do anything for my babies. My dogs and Penn Vet helped me to build myself as a person,” Ebrahimi said in 2013.

Jack’s medical health was continually monitored for his entire life, and while many dogs with liver shunts never grow to full size, Jack grew to over 90 pounds when he reached his adult weight. Mina will miss his energy, loyalty and fighting spirit as she continues to grow her business and promote the outstanding efforts of the clinicians at Penn Vet’s Ryan Hospital. Mina Ebrahimi and Saint Germain Catering will keep Jack’s memory alive as they provide outstanding catering services to the DC Metro and Northern Virginia areas.
