-- Rolling Hills Recovery Center (RHRC), a well-known drug and alcohol addiction treatment center in New Jersey, is excited to announce a new program aimed at helping LGBTQIA+ individuals get the support they need for rehab services. The program, commonly known as the GBTQIA+ Breakout Group, is another example of how RHRC has been working hard to offer clients the best care while also being open and accepting of each patient's needs.
The idea of this group has stemmed from a community survey, which highlights that many people from the LGBTQ+ community seek a forum for discussing how their identity affects their experiences with addiction and mental health. Most of them require an environment under which they are heard, recognized, and supported among peers who understand their unique challenges in accessing services.
“We wanted to make sure that everyone, no matter their gender identity or sexual orientation, is seen and supported in recovery," said Laura Riley, Clinical Director at RHRC. "This group is designed to foster inclusivity, offer therapeutic peer support, and provide psychoeducation that addresses the unique factors impacting LGBTQ+ individuals in recovery.”
A Process-Oriented Approach to Recovery
The LGBTQIA+ support group at RHRC is process-based, where discussions happen organically based on what the members go through. This way of doing things helps make conversations more meaningful and helpful for the unique challenges LGBTQ+ people face during recovery.
“We're committed to ensuring that every person who walks through our doors—including those who identify as LGBTQ+ or as an ally—feels seen, heard, and supported. This group is just one of the ways we continue to demonstrate our commitment to providing a compassionate, individualized approach to recovery for everyone, regardless of their background or identity,” added Riley.
Besides getting support from others, the group also teaches about the mental health and substance use issues that LGBTQ+ people often face. These lessons are meant to give members the skills they need to handle their recovery better and deal with the stigma that comes with their identities.
An Inclusive Space for All
While the group is primarily for those who identify as LGBTQ+, allies are also welcomed and encouraged to participate. RHRC recognizes the importance of allyship in creating a fully inclusive and supportive environment for recovery. The group aims to not only support LGBTQ+ individuals but also to educate allies about the unique needs of this population and the best ways to offer meaningful support.
“Each moment we embrace and celebrate our true selves in all our uniqueness, the RHRC community grows stronger. We are an inclusive community, enriched by the experiences, lives, and contributions of each individual. We want to recognize the many unique communities that make RHRC such a diverse and vibrant place and unite in building a brighter, addiction-free future for every member of our community,” said Robert Marino, Founder of Rolling Hills Recovery Center.
