-- Raphael DaSilva doubled with wins in both rounds of the eMotoRacing Bonneville GP, sanctioned by AHRMA. Zero mounted DaSilva's fast and flowing style overwhelmed the eight rider eSuperSport field on Utah Motorsports Campus' technical east track.
The event was 2016's eighth venue out of ten the 2016 eMotoRacing Series. Ten riders were entered, however a crash in practice for one rider, and illness in another trimmed the starting grid. Riders from around the USA enjoyed the twelve turn road course and its smooth, grippy surface.
DaSilvas sponsor, Hollywood Electrics, brought three Zero ebikes and riders from California.
Saturday's race featured the team of DaSilva and Jeff Clark, plus series points leader Pete Nicolosi of SC, Murrae Haynes of NM, and defending series' champion Arthur Kowitz of Florida. eMotoRacing also welcomed two newcomers to the grid, Richard Ilman of Washington and Hanni Berger of GA.
Saturday's race saw Kowitz leap to a hot start, ripping through the entire field of gas powered bikes gridded in front of eSuperSport to take the lead into turn one. DaSilva made his presence known right away and was in the lead by the fast left hand sweeper on lap one. As DaSilva checked out, the battle for second raged. Kowitz, Nicolosi, and Clark fought closely for the entire race with Nicolosi making a late race pass for second and Kowitz holding off Clark for third.
The Hollywood Electrics teammates DaSilva and Clark made a tactical move for the Sunday round. By switching bikes, the fast DaSilva slowed a bit, but Clark increased his race pace by one and half seconds. This move gave Clark enough speed to take second place over Nicolosi in third and Kowitz in fourth.
To punctuate his impressive weekend, directly after the ebike event DaSilva quickly swapped batteries and joined the next race on AHRMA's schedule. Once again the young rider excelled, beating all the gas powered bikes for the win in the 450cc Motard class.
eMotoRacing travels east to Talledega, Alabama for the ninth round next weekend.
