Rosacea traditionally affects individuals from Northwest Europe but it can affect people of other ethnicities too. Both men and women can suffer with the condition, it can occur at any age but most commonly affects women in the 30-40 age bracket.
Rosacea usually occurs as a redness on the face – normally across the nose, cheeks and forehead, it can sometimes occur around the neck and chest area. Most people who have rosacea only have a mild form of redness and are not formally diagnosed. The condition can cause individuals to experience episodes of low self-esteem or frustration, sufferers can become withdrawn and avoid social contact.
Treating rosacea is different with every individual, mild cases are not normally treated under the NHS but the condition often gets worse and can even affect the eyes if not treated so anyone who thinks they may have the condition should seek medical advice. For more severe cases a doctor will probably prescribe the administration of topical treatments and oral antibiotics.
