Popular Coffee Suppliers in Kent Push The Boundaries Of Sustainable Coffee

Share this news:

Kent coffee suppliers work towards reducing their environmental footprint and aim to have everything they produce be 100% recyclable and sustainable.

Viking Coffee is a small business with big dreams. It’s supplying the people of Kent (and the wider UK) with high-quality, sustainable coffee from ethical sources. This already puts it in a unique position when compared with other mainstream coffee companies. Many of the big brands don’t care about sustainability and ethics, choosing instead to focus on mass production. Viking Coffee wants to do things differently, which is why it's pushing the boundaries of sustainable coffee and aims to become the first coffee suppliers with 100% recyclable products.

It’s an ambitious dream, though the company believes it is well on its way to achieving this feat and has big plans for the future.

Ethical Coffee With a Low Carbon Footprint

Coffee production has a notoriously high carbon footprint. One small cup can produce 0.4kg of CO2 emissions, which may not sound like much, but considering a small cup is around 15g of coffee, it’s fairly worrying. Nevertheless, experts suggest these emissions can be reduced to as little as 0.06kg if the coffee is grown sustainably and follows a sustainable supply chain.

This is one of the key things that Viking Coffee focuses on in its sustainability drive. The owners state, “We ensure all our coffee is ethically sourced and sustainably supplied. It helps us know exactly where our coffee comes from and gives full traceability from farm to cup.” Already, this lowers the carbon footprint of Viking Coffee’s products, but it wants to go one step further in its bid to become the most sustainable coffee company around.

When quizzed about this, the owners said: “We are continually working towards reducing our environmental footprint with our aim to have everything we produce be 100% recyclable.” The coffee itself is already compostable and can be re-purposed after usage. But, the company also wants to make its packaging 100% recyclable, ensuring nothing will go to waste.

Reducing Emissions For Local Deliveries

As well as improving sustainability through ethical coffee production and recyclable packaging, Viking Coffee goes a step further by clamping down on emissions from deliveries. The roastery is based in Kent, so it will personally deliver all orders within the Kent border. This prevents the need for large delivery trucks or vans, making the local orders as eco-friendly as possible.

There’s no denying this company is well on its way to being the most environmentally friendly coffee supplier in Kent - and the UK as a whole. It’s fully focused on pushing the boundaries of sustainability and looks set to continue on an upward trajectory for years to come.

About Viking Coffee Roastery Ltd

Viking Coffee has been open for over 12 years and is an independent coffee supplier based in the beautiful Mid-Kent countryside. It began life as a simple coffee shop, but a surge in popularity encouraged the company to develop its own blend. Fast forward to now, and there are over 6 different blends from Viking Coffee, all of which use sustainable and ethically sourced coffee beans.
