Pleasant Mills Farm Market celebrates the revival of a historic 1955 farm market, its growth since reopening in 2019, and its continued commitment to community, agriculture, seasonal experiences, and locally grown products.

-- Pleasant Mills Farm Market is celebrating the successful revival of a historic farm market originally established in 1955, marking a new chapter in the Zubrzycki family’s longstanding connection to agriculture in South Jersey. Following the family’s purchase of the former market property in 2019 and its reopening in September of that year, Pleasant Mills Farm Market has grown into a community destination offering homegrown plants, seasonal experiences, locally sourced goods, and opportunities for visitors to connect with the land.

The story of Pleasant Mills Farm Market is built on generations of farming experience. In 1984, Stan and Ingrid Zubrzycki established their first greenhouse operation in Nesco, beginning with the cultivation of Easter flowers. Over the following decades, the family remained dedicated to growing plants, caring for the land, and developing relationships with customers and neighbors throughout the region.

In 2019, the Zubrzycki family purchased the former Templeton Family farm property located adjacent to their main family farm. The original market had become inactive before the family brought it back to life. Immediately after completing the purchase, they reopened the market in September 2019 with a renewed vision of creating a place where agriculture, community, and education could grow together.

As Pleasant Mills Farm Market evolved, Emily and Stanley Zubrzycki Jr. continued exploring different crops and growing opportunities, including hops, garlic, and cut flowers, while refining the farm’s offerings. The operation eventually returned its focus to greenhouse-grown annuals, potted vegetables, herbs, flowering plants, and native species that reflect the changing seasons and the unique character of the New Jersey Pinelands.

The market continued to expand its presence and visitor experience with the opening of a new shipping container store on the farm in May 2025. The new store provides a modern, welcoming space for customers while continuing the legacy of the original market, which remains part of the property’s history and connection to the community.

Today, Pleasant Mills Farm Market focuses on creating experiences that extend beyond traditional agriculture. Visitors can explore pesticide-free native plants and ornamentals, discover herbs, vegetables, shrubs, and small trees cultivated on the farm, and experience a butterfly arboretum designed to highlight the relationship between native plants and pollinators.

During the fall season, guests can also participate in a free pick-your-own wildflower experience in fields that are not sprayed with pesticides. The experience allows visitors to enjoy seasonal blooms while learning about the importance of flowers and native plants in supporting local ecosystems.

“Our family has always believed that caring for the land and sharing it with others go hand in hand,” says Stanley. “Every season has shaped the farm in its own way, and each chapter has helped us better understand how we can grow plants, welcome visitors, and remain connected to the place that has been part of our family’s story for decades.”

The farm’s experiences have become an important part of its continued growth. Alongside its nursery and market, Pleasant Mills Farm Market views its flower fields and butterfly experience as opportunities to encourage exploration, appreciation for nature, and lasting connections among visitors. These offerings complement the farm’s selection of flowers, vegetables, herbs, and locally sourced products, creating reasons for guests to return throughout the year.

“For us, flowers represent more than something beautiful to grow,” Stanley shares. “They bring people together, encourage curiosity about the natural world, and create moments that families remember. We see our flower fields and butterfly experience as meaningful ways to continue welcoming new visitors while building relationships that last throughout the season.”

Pleasant Mills Farm Market continues to cultivate flowers, vegetables, herbs, and native plants from its greenhouses while offering a market featuring homegrown selections alongside fresh produce and specialty goods sourced from farms across New Jersey. Through its renewed market, seasonal experiences, and connection to the surrounding landscape, it remains focused on celebrating agriculture, supporting the community, and providing a welcoming destination where visitors can experience the beauty and traditions of the New Jersey Pinelands.
