-- Patterson Legal Group will host its fifth annual FREE backpack giveaway for Wichita-area students on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the WSU Eugene M. Hughes Metropolitan Complex — Lowe Auditorium (5015 East 29th St N, Wichita, KS 67220). The giveaway runs from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., or while supplies last. Attendance is free and open to all school-aged children accompanied by an adult. No registration is required.
The Wichita giveaway is one of four events Patterson Legal Group is hosting in July across Kansas and Missouri, with a goal of distributing approximately 1,000 backpacks stuffed with school supplies to children in need. The series reflects the firm’s long-standing commitment to community outreach and educational support throughout the region.
Back-to-school spending for K–12 families averaged approximately $858 per household in 2025, according to the National Retail Federation's most recent survey — with school supplies alone accounting for roughly $144 of that total. For the families of the roughly 62,000 Kansas children living in poverty (based on recent 2024–2025 estimates), outfitting a student for the 2026 school year can create a significant financial burden to families.
