Online Imported Prescription Drug Safety Issues Discussed In U.S. Congress

U.S. Consumers Want Lawful Access To Affordable Medications today announced the results of an amendment to the budget bill related to expanded approval for less expensive, imported prescription medications from “wholesalers, pharmacies and individuals.” Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) introduced this important amendment but it was defeated 52-46. The amendment called for deficit-neutral reserve funding relating to lower prescription drug prices by importing drugs from Canada for Americans.

As has been the trend, those senators voting against the amendment had objections to importing “possibly-harmful” foreign-manufactured medicines. However, people in the U.S. have been buying medications from online international sources for at least 15 years. Patients buy medicines from other sources because American drug prices are inflated and the prices continually rise every year. Most online prescriptions from accredited, safe and licensed foreign pharmacies reach their destination to needy U.S. patients, but some are held up, with people not being prosecuted for very small amounts of these medicines. If patients buy their drugs from reliable overseas pharmacies, the drugs are usually safe and certified.

There have been arguments from the FDA for years, claiming that drug imports are suspect and there is no guarantee of safety. Yet, Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), who partially supports importation as part of the initiative to address high drug prices, voted against the amendment because of safety. Senator Booker claimed, “Any plan to allow the importation of prescription medications should also include FDA consumer protections ensuring foreign drugs meet American safety standards.” However, pharmacies are licensed by the State Boards, not the Federal Government, and could be empowered to approve licensed online foreign pharmacies. The process is not in the hands of the FDA.

Many foreign-manufactured medications, 40%, are sold in U.S. pharmacies and 80% of the active pharmaceutical components of these drugs are foreign-made. continues to offer the only other viable solution for saving up to 90% by purchasing medications from properly verified Canadian pharmacies. helps consumers find their unaffordable, expensive brand name drugs, as well as expensive generic medications at much lower prices than patients would normally be charged by their U.S. pharmacies.

When U.S. residents purchase brand name medicine from a legitimate Canadian pharmacy, the savings can be huge. The site,, supports U.S. residents who absolutely can not afford their critical prescriptions. So many people want the option to order their medications online, yet come up against perceived safety issues instead of buying “safer, regulated” prescription drugs from a certified U.S. pharmacy. remains the most respected source for importing medications at discount prices from safe and licensed online pharmacies.
