The sweat, commitment and discipline that it takes to be a professional athlete doesn't end when the season is over. Many of the NFL's top players understand this and pay heed, hiring professional trainers to maintain their conditioning during the off season. —
Miami, Florida is home to one of the most sought after trainers in the industry, Manning Sumner. Owner of Legacy Fit, the number one boot camp gym in South Florida, and author of the fitness and lifestyle guide, “No Days OFF”, Sumner has spent a lifetime preparing to become the trainer to the best of the best.
“I love it when my pro guys come to me for guidance in the off season,” a chiseled Sumner offered. “It's not easy to maintain the discipline pro athletes have to have to be successful and most of them know that so they seek out pro level trainers to help keep them focused.”
Despite his location in the City of Lights, Sumner trains more than just Miami Dolphins although his clientele does include a few of the big boys from the local organization. Pro Bowl Offensive Lineman, Brandon Albert and fellow O-Lineman, Dallas Thomas both have trained with Sumner in the off season for several years.
“As a fan of the Dolphins, I really hope that the conditioning these guys have done in the off season will pay off,” Sumner said with a grin. “Tannehill can use some better protection!”
New York Giant rookie Tackle, Bobby Hart, veteran Safety for the Saints, Jamarca Sanford and Rickey “the Freak” Francois of the Washington Redskins are among the professional athletes under Sumner's off season care. Also among his NFL off season clients is the highest paid Center in the NFL, Rodney Hudson of the Oakland Raiders.
“Rodney is an amazing athlete and worth every penny the Raiders paid,” added the professional trainer. “His commitment to maintaining his game-ready condition makes him one of the best players in the NFL.”
The attraction of Legacy Fit to professional athletes, according to Sumner, involves far more than just free weights and sand pit runs. His personal philosophy toward health and physical fitness is encapsulated in the lifestyle guide, “No Days OFF”, written by Sumner and published in 2012.
“No Days OFF is a movement, a lifestyle, a mantra, if you will,” said the entrepreneurial author. “It teaches people to live life to the fullest and to be the best you that you can possibly be all the time, whether you are an NFL player, a pro basketball player or an accountant wanting to get more out of life.”
Sumner takes great pride in the “family” atmosphere that his gym and philosophy has produced for his clientele, both professional and public. Founded in 2008, Legacy Fit quickly became the gym of choice for many local professional athletes and, as Sumner and the facility gained a reputation as the best available, Sumner found himself on the top of a highly competitive heap.
“When the Miami New Times named us the best gym in Miami, we were so proud,” said a surprisingly humble Sumner. “That's when we knew we had it right. And now we've begun to open franchises.”
Cited by Entrepreneur Magazine as one of the top ten hottest franchise opportunities in the country, Legacy Fit is expanding into South Carolina with a Summerville facility franchise just outside of Charleston slated to open in early October, 2015.
“We're excited about the South Carolina facility and the addition of owner, Dominic Mariotti, to our Legacy Fit family,” Sumner commented. “We're ready to show the world just how effective 'No Days OFF' can be. We want to help everyone live their lives better, happier and healthier and the new gym is a step in the right direction.”
