From programmable thermostats to getting a tune up on heating and cooling devices, — Next Step Living is announcing its best advice for homeowners to save energy and money this season. Here are a few of its most popular tips from the company’s home energy advisors:
1. Install a programmable thermostat (it may be available at no cost during a home energy assessment, depending on where the homeowner lives) to save up to 15% on overall energy costs.
2. Use window shades and drapery to keep out the radiant heat during hot days, open them in winter to bring heat into the home.
3. Change out bulbs to high-efficiency ones, such as CFLs or LEDs to save up to 75% on energy used for lighting in the home.
Next Step Living® is the groundbreaking company on a mission to make it easy, affordable and rewarding for homeowners to implement energy-saving solutions. To achieve this, Next Step Living takes a practivist approach – that’s a practical, workable approach that supports an unabashedly activist agenda to protect our planet. In 2014, the company launched Next Step Giving to help other organizations spread the benefits and potential of renewable, efficient energy beyond the border of the Northeast. Next Step Living also partners with hundreds of cities and towns, corporations and nonprofits to help bring home energy efficiency to their communities.
“Reducing the environmental impact of our house was important to us,” Stephanie Riefe, of Simsbury, Conn., who experienced a home energy assessment performed by Next Step Living, says. “I would encourage people to get a home energy evaluation.”
