-- New York-based wedding officiant Maksim has launched Altar, an online marriage platform that enables couples from anywhere in the world to get married through a live video ceremony with a licensed officiant.
Since 2017, Maksim has performed over 3,000 online marriage ceremonies for couples across more than 50 countries. Altar was built to make that service accessible to a wider audience by streamlining the process from document submission to certificate delivery — all completed remotely.
“I started performing online ceremonies almost by accident, when a couple asked if they could do it over video,” said Maksim. “That one ceremony turned into ten, then a hundred, then a thousand. I realized there was massive demand from couples who simply could not get to an officiant in person. That is why I built Altar — to turn what I had been doing one ceremony at a time into a platform that could serve couples at scale.”
Altar serves a wide range of couples, including international partners in long-distance relationships, military families separated by deployment, busy professionals who want a simple and fast ceremony, and couples living abroad who do not have access to marriage services locally. The platform handles all documentation, provides a live ceremony with a licensed New York officiant, and delivers a marriage certificate with an apostille for international recognition.
