-- KATHMANDU, NEPAL — Nepal Solar Thermal And Clean Energy Power Pvt. Ltd. today announced a proposal to establish Nestcep hydrogen venture ltd., a new company dedicated to the production and export of clean energy, hydrogen gas, and ammonia. The proposed venture seeks capital investment to build production facilities in Nepal, utilizing the company's proprietary solar thermal technologies to supply global energy markets.
The new entity, Nestcep, will be registered in Nepal and will manage all production and supply operations within the country. The venture's primary objective is to produce "green hydrogen and its derivatives" which is in high demand as industries and nations seek to decarbonize. The ex-factory price for hydrogen gas has been set at USD $1,000 per ton for larger quantities of above one million tons while slightly more for less quantities. Similar, reasonable prices are found for ammonia $300 per ton , methanol $400 per ton and electricity $0.05 per kwhr for purchases above half a million tons or equivalent with some variation of quantities above or below it.

A key component of the business model is its approach to energy transportation. To mitigate the risks and complexities associated with transporting pure hydrogen, the company plans to convert it into ammonia for shipment to distant locations. Conversion stations will then be established in destination markets to convert the ammonia back into hydrogen or use it to generate electricity, ensuring a safer and more efficient supply chain. This method allows for the stable, long-distance export of energy derived from Nepal's resources.
"Our patented solar thermal technologies allow us to produce green hydrogen at a competitive price point, establishing Nepal as a potential key player in the global energy transition," said Sudarshan Kc, Chairman of Nepal Solar Thermal. "By converting hydrogen to ammonia for transport, we address logistical and safety challenges, making our energy accessible to international markets."
The project leverages solar thermal power, a renewable energy source, to split water. The company is targeting energy investors and international funders to secure the necessary capital for plant construction and to scale operations for export.
The investment proposal outlines a phased development plan, beginning with the construction of an initial production facility and scaling up based on market demand and offtake agreements. The venture aims to collect up to USD 1 BN in capital for project cost of 3.5 BN USD for 5 GW power plants in equity or 20%, 5 year redeemable clean energy preferential shares and circular financing and create a new export industry for Nepal, capitalizing on its renewable energy potential and contributing to the global supply of clean energy.
