In Berlin the organization which supports the sales and distribution of Russian films worldwide, Roskino, and the Russian Export Center organized the event “Made in Russia” that consisted in: a showcase presentation of the key projects of film studios, a round-table on the topic “Creative industries as a factor of international partnership. Economy and development” and a banquet. 10 brand-new film projects were presented there. According to Roskino CEO, Ekaterina Mtsituridze, and a leading journalist of Variety Christopher Vurlias, the Russian film industry faces new export opportunities to boost sales of Russian movies to foreign distributors of content. —
“Every year the interest towards Russian projects rises among international content buyers. After 8 years of our work we have succeeded to get together the best film studios and companies from Russia that create high-quality content, and develop the system of film promotion abroad. In 2010 Russian movies export scale reached $1mln. and by the end of 2018 the total benefit was $27 mln. That’s the best proof that Russian film industry has a bigger future”, noted Ekaterina Mtsituridze.
VoD service tvzavr presented its international project MoveisChain during a round-table in Berlin. MoviesChain by tvzavr is a blockchain-based platform that links independent film producers directly to viewers. The film producers showed a great interest in dealing with the platform to enhance international collaboration. Currently the streaming platform tvzavr is holding negotiations with new studios to integrate their content to VoD tvzavr via MoviesChain.
“Actually in the situation of economic isolation there are some international projects that appear to move the distribution of both independent and major film studios. MoviesChain.io enables film makers from anywhere in the world to upload their movies themselves and the viewers – to get the access to the content that has previously been barely accessible”, noted Vice-President for Strategic Communications of VoD tvzavr Olesya Teplova. “We are collaborating the 3rd year in a row with Roskino and we see some important results for business and we expect around 30 new contracts with right holders to be signed this year. Besides, we have already reached the agreement to integrate “Green Book” and “Acid” to MoviesChain by tvzavr, which is for sure great news”, she added.
The event was attended by nearly 200 film professionals from 17 countries. Among them there were content distributors from France, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, the United States of America and China. Such honored persons attended the event as Vice-President of the American Film Market Robin Bart, director of the European Film Market Mathias Walter Knoll, founder and Chairman of the Board of directors of “Power To The Pixel” Liz Rosenthal, founder of “CineLorber” Richard Lorber, a columnist of “The Guardian” and one of the leading film critics in the world Peter Bradshaw, representative of the Russian Trade Mission in Germany Victor Ilyinsky, ex-minister of Germany’s Foreign Affairs Dr. Wolf-Ruthart Born, representative of the 3rd European Department of Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Daniil Bislinger, a partner of the “McKinsey” company Nico Raabe and others.
