Woodberry Down, Finsbury Park, largest community regeneration project, wins RICS Award.

-- The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors Awards showcase the most inspirational initiatives and developments in real estate, construction and infrastructure across the UK. This year's winners of 2018 have just been announced.

Over 90 of the UK’s most impressive and community beneficial property schemes battled it out for top honours at the RICS Awards 2018. See Brilliance sponsored the RICS awards Regeneration Category and within this category was the overall winner for 2018 - Woodberry Down in London.

Woodberry Down in Finsbury Park is one of London’s largest estate regeneration projects providing place-shaping, social and economic change on an inspiring scale. The concepts of placemaking and people sit at the heart of the 30-year development project, which, on completion in 2035, will see 1,890 existing homes replaced by over 5,500 mixed-tenure, new build homes.

This project stood out from the crowd of incredible entrants because it showed a great ambition to improve the resident’s social and economical aspirations as well as the physical environment. It is impossible to tell the difference between social and private housing and the community will be brought together by a new secondary school as well as local amenities including shops and a community centre. The surrounding outdoor environment has also been taken into account and children were involved in various aspects of the project including outdoor seating areas.

The project team – including Berkeley Homes and Hawkins Brown - have delivered 1,479 homes to-date, along with 2.61 acres of award-winning parkland and new amenities. This new project is a fantastic example of how city living can be reimagined on an affordable scale. Once complete, this area will feel like a small, local community in the heart of the city.

Nigel Bennett, Technical Director at See Brilliance, said: “We’re extremely proud to sponsor the RICS Awards this year. As the category sponsor for Regeneration Project of the Year it’s very exciting to see Woodberry Down, one of Europe's biggest single-site estate regeneration projects, win the award. The project itself will complete in 2035 and boasts 5,500 affordable new homes for locals.”
