Leading Wakefield printers Lindley Print and Design is marking 100 years of printing in Wakefield.

Lindley Print and Design is proud to celebrate its 100th anniversary. Established in Wakefield in 1924 by John Lindley and his son, Sidney, Lindleys is one of the leading printers in Wakefield. The business later passed to John Lindley’s grandson, John Charles Lindley, and remained in the family until 2004 when David Hanson and Anthony Wood took charge.

Throughout its rich history, the company has adapted and modernised, going through various forms and changing names from John Lindley Ltd and John Lindley Son & Co to its current incarnation, Lindley Print and Design.

The original business premises were located at Thompsons Yard. In the 1930s, operations moved to Almshouse Lane. In the 1980s, the property was demolished to make way for the Ridings Shopping Centre and the business relocated to its current home at 70 George Street.

Over the years, the printing industry has developed and evolved, with new technologies and tools revolutionising the sector and changing the way printers produce, circulate and distribute materials. A handcart used for deliveries around Wakefield city centre has been displayed at Wakefield Museum, a museum that showcases and celebrates the vibrant, compelling history of the city. The phone number painted on the cart, 2567, matches the final digits of the current telephone number used by Lindleys.

Historically, Lindleys referred to themselves as printers and bookbinders, but in the last 20 years, the focus has shifted to digital printing. In 2009, the owners joined forces with a web developer to launch a nationwide, next-day printing service, Hippoprint.co.uk. The move enabled the business to cater to the growing demand for rapid printing services across the country.

Lindleys is proud to celebrate its 100th anniversary, marking a century of printing services in Wakefield. Through changes in business structures, names and owners, the ethos has remained the same: to provide high-quality, reliable printing services and exceptional standards of customer service for clients in Wakefield and beyond.

Trusted printers in Wakefield, Lindleys offers a diverse range of print and design services, including digital printing, litho printing, wide format printing and graphic design. More information is available at https://lindleys.biz/
