-- The Shenzhen-Shantou Railway is an important part of the coastal corridor of China’s “Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal” high-speed railway network. It is also a landmark project for infrastructure connectivity in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It is of great strategic significance for implementing the strategy of building China into a transportation powerhouse, promoting the integrated development of Shenzhen and the Shenzhen-Shantou Special Cooperation Zone, and improving Guangdong’s regional development pattern of “One Core, One Belt and One Region.” Once completed, this high-speed railway artery will enable travel between central Shenzhen and the Shenzhen-Shantou Special Cooperation Zone in approximately 30 minutes. It will create a high-speed passenger transport corridor extending eastward from the Greater Bay Area to eastern Guangdong and connecting with the Haixi and Yangtze River Delta urban clusters, injecting strong momentum into high-quality coordinated regional development.

As a key node along the entire railway line, Shenzhen Pingshan Station is an important comprehensive transportation hub in eastern Shenzhen. It undertakes the important mission of strengthening Shenzhen’s railway hub functions and achieving integrated development between the station and the city. Recently, the Pingshan Station project of the Shenzhen-Shantou Railway SSSG-5 section, constructed by China Railway 23rd Bureau Group, successfully cleared several relocation and infrastructure relocation bottlenecks that had been restricting the progress of the project. This marks the project’s official transition into a comprehensive stage of accelerated construction and focused efforts, laying a solid foundation for the progress of the entire railway project.

Railway construction in the core urban area involves the relocation of utility lines, traffic adjustments, and coordination among multiple departments, resulting in a long coordination chain and numerous constraints. Faced with a series of complex practical challenges, the construction team maintained a systematic approach, strengthened coordination and collaboration among multiple parties, and actively communicated with the local government and relevant functional departments. Focusing on the bottlenecks and difficult issues of the project, the team worked to overcome challenges, resolved external factors restricting construction progress one by one, cleared key obstacles to project construction, and fully released the construction conditions in the Pingshan Station area. As various bottlenecks were cleared, multiple work areas, including the main station structure, supporting facilities at the north square, and traffic diversion, were launched simultaneously. This effectively avoided risks related to the construction schedule and coordination between different processes, creating favorable conditions for standardized construction, improved quality, and increased efficiency.

The breakthrough at this major project milestone reflects the practical efforts to overcome challenges in the construction of major infrastructure projects in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The progress achieved in the construction of Pingshan Station is not only related to the construction schedule of the entire Shenzhen-Shantou Railway, but also has practical value in improving the comprehensive transportation system in eastern Shenzhen, unleashing the hub’s ability to drive surrounding development, and serving the industrial and livelihood development along the railway.
