According to a recent survey conducted by Simply Measured, the biggest companies on Facebook have found that their engagement has increased by 43 percent compared to last year, with photo and video sharing being the biggest contributor.

This statistic may surprise some, who have heard a lot about how organic reach on Facebook has been crippled over the last year. However, while reach is down this has not been met with a drop in engagement for Interbrand 100 companies.

Over the last three months, major brands have made five percent fewer posts than they did in the same period of last year, and 12 percent fewer posts than they did in the final quarter of the year, but this does not mean that Facebook is not working for those brands. In spite of posting less often, their total engagement remains stable – it appears that advertisers have focused on being more selective, and on improving the quality of the content that they post.

In fact, per-post engagement is up 53 percent year-on-year. The report does not make a distinction between organic posts and promoted posts, since they did not have access to that data to include it in the report. However, promoted posts have been available to brand owners since 2012, so even ignoring that detail the trend is highly significant.

Another thing that the report left out was video views. However, it was noticed that engagement on video posts was up – likes, shares and comments increased eight percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2014, and much of that improvement came from an increase in the number of users that were sharing branded videos. Photo engagement increased by six percent, with an increase in share rate of more than fifty percent.

It’s interesting to note that while brand owners noticed the increase in video content engagement, and increased the number of videos that they posted, the increase was minor, with brands posting just two percent more video content this quarter compared to last quarter. It is likely that the industry will observe a massive increase in the amount of video content posted this year, however, as brand owners start to catch on to the importance of video. Adidas, for example, posted thirteen videos over the last quarter, an increase from just seven during Q4 2014, and they saw a more than 9,000% increase in likes and shares as a result.

The 100K Factory system shows participants how to leverage Facebook as well as the search engines to increase viral traffic in a scaleable way.
