IJM Land breaks ground on new aparthotel at Royal Mint Gardens

-- IJM Land Berhad (“IJM Land”), an international property developer and the property division of IJM Corporation Berhad (“IJM”), through its UK subsidiary RMS (England) Limited, is developing the second and final phase of Royal Mint Gardens and has leased part of the site to Staycity Group, one of Europe’s leading aparthotel operators, for a flagship its Wilde brand . Located near and overlooking the iconic Tower Bridge, this project builds on the success of the first phase of Royal Mint Gardens, completed in 2019.

The aparthotel will span 15 floors, offering 463 fully equipped rooms designed for both short and extended stays. Guests will also enjoy a rooftop bar with panoramic views of London and dining options accessible to residents and the public. The 30-year lease underscores Staycity Group’s long-term commitment to providing high-quality hospitality in London’s vibrant city centre.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the project site today, led by Datuk Lee Chun Fai, Group CEO & Managing Director of IJM Corporation Berhad, officially marking the start of construction. The event reflects IJM’s commitment to creating urban developments that enhance cityscapes and foster dynamic communities.

Royal Mint Gardens: A Foundation for Growth

Royal Mint Gardens, IJM Land’s maiden project in London, completed its first phase in 2019. This phase features three condominium blocks spanning 315,000 square feet with 15 storeys and 256 private residential units, built at Tower Hill, including over two active railway lines and the Docklands Light Railway.

Construction for Royal Mint Gardens Phase 1 was undertaken by Midgard Limited, the main contracting division of JRL Group. Known for its technical expertise in rail-adjacent and over-railway developments, Midgard has been appointed as the contractor for Phase 2, which includes the Staycity Group’s Wilde brand and 79 additional residential units. IJM announced yesterday its proposal to acquire a 50% equity stake in JRL Group, further strengthening its construction capabilities in the UK.

Construction is set to proceed following the groundbreaking ceremony, with completion targeted for May 2028. Both IJM Land and Staycity Group are committed to sustainable development practices, ensuring the project adheres to the highest environmental standards.
