in-home senior care in the Greater Toronto Area, is announcing that it will be hosting an upcoming webinar discussing dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
On Thursday November 19, Home Care Assistance – Toronto/York Region will be hosting a complimentary public webinar. Titled “Proven Ways to Care For Loved Ones With Dementia and Alzheimer’s and Yourself,” the webinar looks to help and inform the loved ones of seniors suffering from these unfortunate illnesses.
“It’s an opportunity to inform family members and other caregivers who are caring for relatives with Alzheimer’s and dementia,” says Brian Shevel, President of Home Care Assistance – Toronto/York Region. “It’s a complex disease that requires consistent, specialized care, which is why those affected are encouraged to sign up for the webinar.”
Kae Hammond, founder of the Dementia Help Center, will be a featured guest on the webinar. Hammond is the author of Pathways: A Guidebook for Dementia & Alzheimer’s Family Caregivers.
“A person would be hard pressed to find someone as knowledgeable about Alzheimer’s and dementia as Ms. Hammond,” Shevel adds. “She is an excellent choice to be one of the leaders of this webinar and someone who is more than willing to share all she knows on these topics.”
There is close to 50 million people worldwide currently suffering from some form of dementia, and that number is expected to triple by 2050. That means more and more families will need to be made aware of how to care for loved ones with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
“To think of how many seniors are already dealing with this disease, and then to imagine the number who will potentially have it in the future, can be alarming,” Shevel concludes. “But until the day comes where a cure or proven treatment is found, all that can be done is providing care to those who are afflicted.”
The “Proven Ways to Care For Loved Ones With Dementia and Alzheimer’s and Yourself” webinar takes place on November 19, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Complimentary registration can be completed at http://www.homecareassistance.com/dementia-webinar.
