Storm season can wreak havoc on homes, and in the turmoil of dealing with the fallout, many forget that prevention and proper repairs can keep homeowners from having to face similar issues again and again. —
For Brad Bodiford, it became a safety issue.
“Roofing services often fly through each job on their way to the next one, and in Texas, where storms can cause pretty significant destruction, that’s just not OK,” says Bodiford, owner of Arlington Roofing Co. “It’s a safety issue. That’s a family inside that home, and it’s so frustrating to meet people whose roofs were destroyed by a storm because somebody didn’t do their job right the first time. No one should have to phone a company to clean up somebody else’s mess.”
Extreme weather, such as high winds and heavy rains, can tear and remove shingles, leaving the roof deck exposed to the elements, while hail can leave dents or pockmarks in shingles, compromising the integrity of a roof. As this happens, the entire home becomes susceptible to water damage, and a simple roofing issue can result in much more extensive issues within the home.
“It’s completely natural for roofs to be damaged by harsh weather, but roof repair services need to be able to answer the call. Not only that, but installing the proper products to be able to deal with these extreme storm systems can make a world of difference and can help put homeowners’ minds at ease,” Bodiford explains. “It really does just come down to being smart and safe at home.”
A recent review of 180 properties in Texas by the Roofing Industry Committee on Weather Issues found that repairing damaged roofs, or investing in higher-quality roofing products, can save homeowners anywhere from 20% to 25% on their home insurance.
“The benefits here really do outweigh any potential downfalls. Roofing may seem like a significant cost up front, but the cost savings over the years really do pay off, and even more importantly, there’s peace of mind that comes with getting the job done right,” Bodiford says. “We all care about our families. That’s all it really comes down to.”
