Pulp is a form of wood that has been grounded to a fine powder which are used in in the making of newsprint and other cheap forms of paper and in the production of hardboard. Pulp is mostly made up from wood fiber. Wood is reduced to pulp through mechanical and chemical treatment. In addition to its primary uses such as printing & writing, packaging and tissue market, technological advancements led to use of pulp in fiber industry also. Higher purity fiber grades include diapers, rayon-based clothing, LCD screens, pharmaceuticals, food applications, and food casings.

On the basis of cellulose content, pulp is broadly categorized into four:
• Market pulp
• Fluff pulp
• Viscose cellulose and
• Specialty cellulose

Specialty cellulose is the highest grade of pulp as it contains more than 95% of cellulose while market pulp comes under the category of lowest grade as cellulose content in it is less than 88%.
