-- Full Scale, a US-based offshore software development company that builds dedicated engineering teams in the Philippines, is expanding an internal training program designed to keep its Filipino engineers current on artificial intelligence development tools. The program, called the Spartan Training Academy, now reaches the company's full engineering staff of more than 300 employees.
The flagship offering within the academy is a Claude Masterclass series, a set of live sessions held multiple times each month that move from beginner fundamentals to advanced practice. Sessions cover practical skills such as using AI coding assistants inside a developer's terminal and integrated environment, and building agentic workflows that connect AI tools to systems like GitHub, databases, and team messaging platforms. The company supplements the live sessions with short weekly training videos and longer recorded sessions produced by its own engineers for their peers.
The investment reflects a view that AI fluency is becoming a baseline requirement for software engineers rather than a specialty. Industry research has consistently found that demand for AI-related development skills is outpacing the supply of engineers who hold them. Full Scale's position is that an offshore workforce must be trained for that shift deliberately, because not every client project exposes engineers to the newest tools at the same pace.
For the Philippine technology sector, the program is one example of how foreign technology employers are investing in the long-term skill base of the local workforce rather than treating it as a source of low-cost labor. The Philippines is already among the world's leading destinations for technology services, with a large pool of STEM graduates and consistently high English proficiency. Structured AI training adds another layer to that competitiveness.
"Our clients trust us with their products because our engineers are exceptional. Keeping them exceptional now means making sure every one of them is fluent in AI development tools, not just the ones who happen to land a project that uses them."
Full Scale was founded in 2018 and has placed more than 1,000 developers with US technology companies, maintaining a developer retention rate above 93 percent. The company says the training program also supports retention by giving engineers a clear path to grow their skills over a long career rather than moving from one short contract to the next.
Companies looking to hire dedicated Filipino developers trained on modern development practices can be matched with pre-vetted engineers through the company's staffing model, in which each developer works exclusively with one client and is embedded in that client's team.
Full Scale maintains an office in Cebu, while its engineers work remotely from across the Philippines.
