This projected year-long study, organized by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, has a goal of identifying ambitious scientific opportunities in food and agriculture while grappling with the challenge of determining how to feed 9 billion people by 2050, according to The Washington Post.But one notable statement has already been made during the recent first session. While discussing pathogens that threaten the global food supply, project co-chair John D. Floros said, “We are one major disease away from starvation.”
