The Greater Amberjack Spring Season opened May 1st and closes May 31st. The 2021/2022 recreational greater amberjack fishing year will start August 1st through October 31st, 2021.

Experienced fishing charter operator and 3rd generation fisherman, Captain Mark Kelley states that the 2021 Amberjack Season is turning out to be a fantastic fishing season for people looking for a deep-sea fishing charter.

Capt. Mark Kelley says that this season is turning out to be a great one, making for some excellent catches. With excitement, Capt. Kelley along with Capt. August Redding at Kelley Girl Charters, Panama City, FL. officially started Amberjack Season May 1st, 2021, and will run daily fishing charter trips for the duration of this month and then again August 1st through October 31st. The seasonal closure intends to help conserve the Gulf's greater amberjack population and rebuild this fish species for the future.

Of course, anglers can catch other fish species, but the greater amberjack is one of the most highly prized catches. Because of the limited season, reserved fishing trips on Kelley Girl Fishing Charter boats will fill up very quickly. Kelley Girl Charters has two fishing charter vessels that can accommodate up to 20 passengers: The Lady Kelley, which is 55 ft, or the Kelley Girl, which is 52 ft.

Amberjack fishing charters range from 8-hour to 12-hour trips. Capt. Kelley advises that longer trips increase the angler’s ability to catch a better class of fish. Anglers can bottom fish for a variety of snapper, amberjack, triggerfish, and an occasional grouper. On these trips, the Captain may take anglers up to 40 miles offshore of the panhandle into the Gulf of Mexico. Restrictions apply, of course, and the minimum size limit is 34” Fork Length, with a daily bag limit of 1 amberjack per person.

Capt. Kelley is also incredibly environmentally conscious and has built artificial reefs to help maintain the fishing grounds so that reefs are always producing excellent catches for both the locals and visitors coming to the Panama City, Florida area and looking for great private, charter fishing trips. This year alone Capt. Mark Kelley built more than 50 artificial reefs and privately transported them out into the Gulf of Mexico to ‘their secret fishing spots.’ The artificial reefs are constructed from recycled chicken transport boxes and cabled together to form reef formations. Capt. Kelley also took out more than 12 old Peanut Picker machines from Alabama which were sunk to be used as artificial underwater reefs. These artificial reefs are floated on barges to locations between 12 miles to 30 miles into the Gulf of Mexico and sunk. The newly formed reefs are GPS pinpoint located and tracked for future Fishing Charter Trips off the white sandy shores of Panama City and Panama City Beach.

So, for avid anglers ready to get out on the water this amberjack season, or families looking for a great day of adventure, Capt. Kelley and Capt. August are excited to share their 'Secret Spots' and hopefully take home a prize catch.

Remember, bookings fill up fast during Amberjack Season. Therefore, Capt. Kelley advises people to book as soon as possible to ensure their preferred dates are available. Contact details are below.
