Finnish Ski Resort Messilä gets kids onto the snow 21.1.2018

On Sunday 21.1.2018 Finnish Ski Resort Messilä will open the slopes 10am. For the first two hours, all under 10 year olds ski for free. International FIS World Snow Day is celebrated around the world

International FIS World Snow Day is celebrated around the world on 21st January 2018. Messilä Ski Centre will be offering entertainment and discounts on the day, especially for children.

FIS, the International Ski Federation, originally launched World Snow Day to encourage children and their families to enjoy the snow and snow sports. The event organizers were concerned about the decline in youth participation in snow sports in general and the idea of the Snow Day was to rekindle people’s interest in snow sports.

On the day, participating resorts around the world offer discounts, opportunities to try snow sports, competitions, guidance/instruction and entertainment off the snow, whilst demonstrating to kids the health benefits of snow sports.
Located in Lahti (just one hour away from Helsinki), Messilä Ski Centre is delighted to be a proud participant in World Snow Day this year, and offers something for complete beginners through to regulars.

Discounts and competitions

On Sunday 21.1.2018 Messilä will open the slopes 10am. For the first two hours, all under 10 year olds ski for free. The rental shop Skimac is also open, with a 50% off all rentals for those under 130 cm tall.

At 11am, Messilä’s own Ski School will organise a fun competition for children on the easy training slope, “Pikkukylä”, close to the main lifts. One of the day’s sponsors, Myllyn Paras will be giving away 400 packs of protein pasta for the first 400 lucky people.

“As in previous years, we are expecting hundreds of keen children and youngsters”, says Messilä Slope Manager Sami Mattiniemi

Messilä was the Ski Centre of the Year in 2015 and is located only an hour’s drive from the capital Helsinki. With 10 slopes and 9 lifts, Messilä is the largest ski centre in Southern Finland.
Messilä also offers large cross-country network for skiers and sledging areas for the little ones in the family. Along with many restaurants (ranging from casual to elegant), Messilä offers a variety of accommodation options right next to the slopes.
