-- Fashion Lifestyle Sourcing Expo and E-Commerce Trade Fair Grand Opening
On October 9, the SMX Convention Center in Manila was brilliantly lit for the grand opening of the 2025 Philippine Lifestyle Sourcing Expo and the Asian International E-Commerce Trade Fair.
This major event, co-organized by the China Chamber of Commerce for Import & Export of Textiles and the Huiyuan Culture Development Group, brought together over 120 exhibitors from Asia, showcasing a diverse range of products including apparel, textiles, functional fabrics, underwear, handbags, footwear, and various lifestyle goods.
Major Chinese-Filipino business associations, including the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) and the Filipino Chinese Industrial and Commercial Association, Inc. (FCICAI), provided strong support for the expo. As early as March this year, Mr. Cai Hongyu, President of the Philippine Chinese General Business Association, had stated that since its establishment a decade ago, the association has consistently actively participated in various economic and trade platforms, facilitating numerous successful Philippines-China cooperation projects.
In his opening speech, Mr. Cao Jiachang, President of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import & Export of Textiles, specially commended the role of the Chinese-Filipino community. He noted, "The Chinese-Filipinos are a vital force in driving the socio-economic transformation of the Philippines," and acknowledged their significant contributions to the development of Philippines-China textile and garment trade.
Digital Empowerment: E-Commerce Fair Opens New Channels
The concurrently held Asian International E-Commerce Trade Fair provided exhibitors with an efficient platform to explore the e-commerce markets of the Philippines and Southeast Asia. The E-Commerce Integrated Services Zone centrally displayed full-chain services including e-commerce platforms, logistics and warehousing, operational payment solutions, and design marketing.
The leading Southeast Asian e-commerce platform Shopee had previously indicated at the China Cross-Border E-Commerce Fair in March that they are continuously deepening their local fulfillment system to support cross-border business growth with better costs and higher efficiency.
Currently, Shopee's local fulfillment network has been fully deployed across major sites in Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, offering sellers more flexible fulfillment options.
Trade Ties: Philippines-China Economic Relations Deepen
Data from China's General Administration of Customs shows that in 2024, the total value of China's imports and exports with ASEAN reached USD 962.04 billion, with exports to ASEAN amounting to USD 574.04 billion, an increase of 9.2%.
As important members of ASEAN and RCEP, the Philippines and China share close economic and trade relations. China is the Philippines' largest trading partner, largest import source, and second-largest export market.
President Cao Jiachang revealed at the opening ceremony that as of July 2025, the total bilateral trade volume between China and ASEAN reached USD 597 billion, growing by 8.2%; while the goods trade volume between China and the Philippines reached USD 30.36 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5.4%.
Industrial Synergy: Complementary Advantages Create Win-Win
The Philippine Lifestyle Sourcing Expo serves not only as a procurement platform but also as a bridge connecting nations, industries, and people. In his speech, Mr. Zeng Guoqiang, Executive Vice President of the Filipino Chinese Industrial and Commercial Association, Inc., cited the Chinese proverb "Human ingenuity crafts fine art," emphasizing that creativity and craftsmanship can only flourish and take root in an environment of peace and harmony.
The expo integrated three major themes: "Philippines Apparel & Textile Fair," "Philippines Sporting Goods Fair," and "Asian International E-Commerce Fair," reflecting a new pattern of multi-industry integration and cooperation.
The Philippines also benefits from preferential tariff treatments under the US Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) and the EU's GSP+, allowing over two-thirds of tariff lines to be entirely duty-free.
Future Outlook: Building a Shared Regional Vision
Mr. Zeng Guoqiang called upon all sectors at the opening ceremony to continuously deepen cooperation and embrace innovation to jointly build a regional development vision "grounded in peace and connected by creativity." He stated, "May this Expo inspire us to innovate boldly and collaborate sincerely, working hand in hand to promote the prosperity and progress of Asian industries."
Mr. Xu Xueyu, Vice President of the FFCCCII, pointed out that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and China, with peoples of the two countries continuing to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, technology, and cultural exchanges.
Such expos not only connect buyers and sellers but also inspire innovative thinking and drive bilateral industrial progress. They provide valuable opportunities for local businesses to connect with international partners, further strengthening the Philippines' position as a key gateway for quality manufacturing and supply resources in Asia. Serving as more than just a platform for commercial exchange, they act as a bridge linking nations, industries, and people, opening up broader prospects for Philippines-China cooperation under the RCEP framework.
