-- According to the National Resource Defense Council, 90 percent of food buyers are confused about expiration dates such as “best by,” “use by” and “sell by.” New guidelines from the U.S. Department of Agriculture aim to reduce the amount of good food being thrown away by Americans. The agency recommends that egg, meat and dairy manufacturers use only one standard for their labeling, worded as “best if used by,” according to CBSNews.com.
