On the Gritty Spanish about page Eldon says, “I actually decided to create something like this for myself, for my personal use because I had hit a brick wall and I just needed something really entertaining that would get me going again.”
Spanish is known as a romance language, romance languages evolved from Latin in sixth and ninth centuries A.D. Other romance languages include: Romanian, Italian, Portuguese and French. Spanish is the most widely spoken of all romance languages, it is currently spoken by 420 million people world wide and this number is forecasted to grow whilst other languages such as English decline. Spanish is the official language of Spain (not surprisingly) and many South American countries, it is also on the list official languages used by organisations such as the E.U and U.N. Like most romance language speakers and Europeans in general, Spanish people are known for their passion and fiery temper. Eldon says he wanted the content in his audio course to reflect Spanish passion, be edgy, aggressive and sometimes shocking. He says he wanted the content to be like this because he knew it would wake up a listener. “People just pay attention to that kind of stuff, whether they like it or not, it wakes them up.”
Eldon wanted the characters in his audio course to show anger, frustration, disappointment and a wide range of emotions. The courses are not for children, on the Gritty Spanish FAQs page Eldon says, "if the course was a movie it would be R rated", the course is aimed at mature, open minded adults who are not easily offended.
