Electric Car Scheme Reveals UK’s Most Affordable Electric Vehicles as Price Drops

The Electric Car Scheme is revealing some of the UK’s most affordable EVs as new models, and a growing used market brings the price of electric cars down considerably.

  • The Electric Car Scheme unveils the most affordable EVs available through salary sacrifice.
  • Nissan LEAF and Dacia Spring available from less than £200 a month, with UK favourite Tesla Model 3 from just £303.

The Electric Car Scheme is highlighting some of the UK’s most affordable electric vehicles (EVs), as new models and a growing used market continue to bring down the price of EVs significantly.

Affordability remains the biggest obstacle to EV adoption, with 68% of Britons identifying it as a primary concern, ahead of issues such as running costs, reliability, and range anxiety.

With this in mind, drivers and potential EV owners will be pleased to see that, as of September, a range of electric vehicles is available for under £200 per month. This is especially significant with the reintroduction of the 2030 EV deadline.

Under £200

For £200 a month, drivers might expect a medium-sized family outing budget, but for those in the EV market, this could easily cover the cost of a new Dacia Spring. Priced from £153 per month through salary sacrifice, this option also leaves additional funds for charging.

Alternatively, a used Nissan LEAF Hatchback is available from as little as £195 per month, compared to around £260 for a new model. The used EV market has proven particularly popular among customers of The Electric Car Scheme, with used cars now accounting for nearly half of the provider's sales.

Under £250

For those seeking more options at an affordable price, salary sacrifice schemes offer a wide range of EVs for less than £250 per month. In the new car market, options include the BYD Dolphin, available from just £214 per month, as affordable Chinese EVs enter the UK market.

On the used EV side, the range expands significantly. Models include the Renault ZOE Hatchback from £215 per month, the Hyundai IONIQ Electric Hatchback from £223 per month, and the Vauxhall Mokka-e Electric Hatchback from £236 per month.

Under £300

For under £300 per month—an amount comparable to many rail season tickets, especially those into London—drivers can lease four different new EVs through The Electric Car Scheme. These include the Nissan LEAF, Mini Cooper, MG 4, and MG ZS.

Once again, the used car market offers even more options, including one of the UK’s most popular EVs, the Tesla Model 3, available from just £303 per month.

The Electric Car Scheme CEO and Co-Founder Thom Groot commented: “There are some fantastic deals out there for EVs at the moment, and they are only becoming more affordable as more entry level models become available and the used EV market matures. These prices make EVs accessible to a far wider section of society and income levels, something that will be key in reaching the 2030 deadline.

“We know that the main concern for drivers is, affordability, which was the biggest barrier for 68% of Brits, way out in front of any concerns around range, reliability or resale value. This is why we started The Electric Car Scheme, to make EVs more affordable and help increase uptake ahead of the coming phase-out of traditional cars.”
