In a powerful alliance against drug abuse, Likusasa Lomama Community Project teamed up with Drug Free World, sponsored by the Church of Scientology, to deliver groundbreaking drug education to the Kwadwesi community. This partnership aims to transform how drug-related issues are addressed through innovative educational initiatives.

Likusasa Lomama, located just 25 minutes from Nelson Mandela Bay City center, has long been dedicated to community development, focusing on entrepreneurship, skills development, and food security. Now, with a renewed focus on drug prevention, the organization has launched an impactful new chapter in its mission.

Earlier this month, a pivotal workshop introduced the comprehensive “Truth About Drugs” program to staff and community members. The program features Public Service Announcement videos, an illuminating documentary, educational booklets, and 14 free online courses covering a spectrum of substances prevalent today. These resources are designed to empower individuals with knowledge about the dangers of drug use.

The commitment shown by Likusasa Lomama’s staff was exemplary. Not only did they complete their first course on the same day, but they also established a new unit within the NPO dedicated to drug education. This unit is focused on equipping the youth and broader community with essential information about drug abuse.

Since the workshop, the program has reached and educated nearly 100 community members. Likusasa Lomama now hosts its own workshops, providing critical insights into the effects of alcohol, prescription drugs, and other substances. By cutting through the myths and glamorization surrounding the drug culture, these sessions present the stark realities of drug abuse, fostering informed decision-making and resilience against substance use.

During the workshop, attendees engaged with powerful interviews from former drug users and explored the deceptive tactics used by drug dealers to ensnare new users. These discussions highlighted the necessity of early education in preventing drug abuse.

The founder of Likusasa Lomama emphasized the urgency of the program, stating, "We have to make them [youth] aware of the dangers of drugs before they even think of them.” This statement underscores the crucial role of the Truth About Drugs program in shaping a more informed and healthier community.

Sponsored by the Church of Scientology and inspired by L. Ron Hubbard, the Truth About Drugs program provides NPOs and educators with ‘Educator Kits’ at no cost. These kits are instrumental in raising awareness and promoting informed decisions about legal and illegal substances that are increasingly accessible.

As many former drug users have noted, “If I knew what this was going to do to me, I never would have started.” This poignant reminder highlights the essential role of education in drug prevention.

Likusasa Lomama’s collaboration with Drug Free World represents a beacon of hope and a model for other communities. Through proactive education and outreach, they are addressing the drug epidemic head-on and laying the groundwork for a healthier future.
