-- Dr. Archana Sudame, founder of Admission Crew, LLC, and Youth Services Chair for the Rotary Club of San Ramon Valley (SRV Rotary Club), is leading a new community initiative to expand educational opportunities for local students while strengthening the club's long-standing investment in youth programs. The effort brings together volunteer education professionals to support students at key academic milestones and raise additional scholarship funding for graduating seniors.

Working alongside Sudame, volunteer education professionals will contribute their expertise to the club's new youth initiatives, helping broaden educational opportunities while expanding scholarship funding for local students.
Sudame holds a STEM Ph.D. from Rutgers University and has worked with students on college and graduate admissions since 2003. She founded Admission Crew in 2010 and now brings her professional experience to Rotary’s community-service work. She also advises the San Ramon Valley Community Interact Club, a Rotary-sponsored organization through which secondary school students lead their own service projects. In addition, she is a co-founder of STEM Outside The Box, a California 401 C3 nonprofit that helps local youth pursue STEM activities and competitions that build critical thinking and hands-on skills. Last year, STEM Outside The Box partnered with the San Ramon Valley Rotary Club to support Grizzly Overdrive, the VEX Robotics team from California High School in San Ramon, as it competed at the VEX Robotics World Championship.
“My goal is to energize young people by giving them meaningful educational support, meaningful service opportunities, and access to resources that can broaden what they believe is possible,” Sudame said.
The team of advisors belongs to one or more national professional associations for educational counseling. Together, the advisors bring additional knowledge and perspectives to the club's expanding youth initiatives.
Two new education programs will launch this year. A one-day college application and essay workshop on Sunday, Aug. 23, will help students entering their final year of high school understand how the different parts of a college application come together. The program will provide guidance on presenting academic accomplishments, extracurricular activities, and personal experiences effectively and authentically.
“My colleagues and I believe AI has no place in college application essays. Admissions professionals want to hear the authentic teenage voice behind the academics and activities. They want to understand why students pursued certain opportunities, what they learned from those experiences, and how those choices shaped them. My focus is always on helping students identify and communicate the purpose behind what they have done,” Sudame said.
Sudame and her fellow Rotarian Rochelle Tan are also developing a second program through the Rotary Club: the Step Up Learning Conference, planned for late fall. The half-day conference will support middle school students preparing to enter high school and help families understand public- and private-school pathways, academic preparation, course planning, and the expectations of American high school education.
The conference was created with a specific community need in mind. Many local immigrant families are unfamiliar with the American high school system and the wide range of academic pathways and extracurricular expectations students encounter. As a result, children may feel pressured to pursue numerous activities before they have had enough time to discover their genuine interests and strengths. This can create unnecessary stress and distraction. The conference will help families make informed, purposeful decisions based on each student’s readiness, interests, and long-term goals.
Both programs are designed to reach students while they still have time to make informed educational decisions. All proceeds will support the Rotary Club’s scholarships and youth-service projects.
“Rotary wanted to create something for local students that would also strengthen the wider community,” Sudame said. “Students receive experienced guidance, education professionals contribute their knowledge, and the funds raised return to young people through scholarships and other youth programs.”
Scholarships remain central to the club’s youth work. On May 27, 2026, the Rotary Club awarded scholarships to three local students: Juliana Guerrero and Leilani Rudulph, who each received $1,000, and Joseph Jiang, who received $3,000. Established in 2008, the scholarship fund supports graduating students with financial need. As the costs of higher education and everyday living continue to rise, the club hopes to increase the amount it awards annually.
The new programs build upon the youth initiatives the Rotary Club has developed over many years. Since 2023, the club has hosted the San Francisco Bay Area regional competition for the Scripps National Spelling Bee. In its first year, the competition drew students from 210 schools across the region.
The club also provides a dictionary to every third-grade student in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District, supports Kids Against Hunger, and has added support for California National History Day. Its Interact club gives local teenagers opportunities to develop leadership skills through community service.
Together, these programs create a continuum of support extending from the elementary grades through the college application process. They also give local professionals, families, and Rotary members a shared way to invest in the success of young people throughout the San Ramon Valley.
Through Sudame's leadership and the support of volunteer education professionals, the new initiatives build on youth programs the Rotary Club has championed for years while creating more opportunities for the community to invest in local students. The college application workshop and Step Up Learning Conference mark the next chapter in the club's commitment to expanding educational opportunities and scholarship support.
