Disappointing Finish to Top Ranked Carolina Panthers NFL Season

The highly favored NFL NFC Champions, the Carolina Panthers suffered an untimely meltdown in the biggest game of the year, losing to the Denver Broncos in Superbowl 50. Pro trainer, Manning Sumner, comments on the game, his pro athlete clients and professional conditioning.

Nearly 75% of America watched as the uber-talented Carolina Panthers crumbled in Superbowl 50 against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. Expectations were far from met by the number one ranked team in the National Football League. NFL Analysts around the country predicted a low scoring, well matched battle of the top AFC and NFC teams only to be baffled by the poor performance of the one loss Panthers.

“Since the game, the media and people been really hard on Cam Newton,” commented Manning Sumner, founder and owner of Legacy Fit, the number one bootcamp gym in Miami and trainer to many professional athletes, including Panthers DE, Charles Johnson. “But the responsibility for the loss doesn't lie on his shoulders. Sure, mistakes were made throughout the game by both teams, but to think Cam is solely responsible for the Panthers' loss is unfair and just not the truth.”

A former Auburn University Linebacker and Running Back, Sumner is no stranger to high pressure games and, as a trainer of professional athletes, understands the many issues and difficulties experienced at the professional level.

“The media can really crucify players, placing blame where it doesn't belong,” Sumner continued. “The truth, as I see it, is that both teams brought their 'A' games. Someone had to win and someone had to lose. And when a game starts out with bad officiating right off the bat, you know it's going to be a battle to the end. I don't care what anybody says, Cotchery caught that ball. The correct call could have, and likely would have, changed the game entirely.”

Only two plays later, Superbowl 50 MVP Bronco Von Miller sacked Newton, forcing a fumble that resulted in six points for Denver. The Carolina Panthers and Cam Newton spent the remainder of the game attempting to recover from that against the #1 defense in the NFL.

“The fact that a defensive player was named MVP indicates just how much impact the defenses of each team had on the outcome,” stated Sumner. (Statistically, only ten defensive players in the history of the Superbowl have received the honor.) “It was straight up smash-mouth football with very evenly matched teams. Blaming one player for a loss at this level is just silliness. The Panthers played their hearts out but one team had to lose.”

The author of the fitness guide that has led to a nationwide movement, “No Days OFF,” Sumner penned the lifestyle guide based on his own fitness philosophies and teaches the lessons contained within to all of his clients, professional athlete or private sector. The book takes a fitness enthusiast through an 84-day plan to become a healthier, more fulfilled person through proper nutrition and exercise for both body and mind.

“It's [No Days OFF] really about being the best you that you can be, all the time. Never take a day off from being the best you possible,” Sumner explained. “Watching Peyton Manning work his way back to the field after the foot issue this season is an illustration of what 'NDO' is all about. He couldn't play, he couldn't practice, but he did all that he could do to come back ready...at his best...and look what happened. He won the Superbowl at almost 40 years old!”

Trainer to a wide variety of professional sports stars, Sumner has celebrated the success of his pro athlete clients in recent years. The trainer boasts several championship feathers in his cap in addition to guiding players to amazing comebacks from near career ending injuries.

Shaun Livingston, guard for the 2015 NBA National Champion Golden State Warriors spent a great deal of his rehabilitation from a devastating leg injury sweating with Manning Sumner at Legacy Fit Miami. Branden Albert, Offensive Lineman for the Miami Dolphins also came back from a possible career ending injury with the help of Sumner, and was named to the 2016 NFL Pro Bowl. NFL NFC Champion Carolina Panthers Defensive End, Charles Johnson does his off season conditioning with the trainer to the pros, as do many more professional athletes from across the country.

Training professional athletes and often helping them overcome an injury that could well have ended their career has more rewards than you could imagine,” Sumner explained. “It's not about being the champion, although that is a great perk, it's about coming back. It's about being the best, again.” A thoughtful look crossed the trainers chiseled features as he nodded, “It's about being the best.”
