Miami, FL – — Ricky K. Patel, ESQ. is excited to announce the launch of his latest children’s book, which was written to help little girls trust their instincts and avoid predatory behavior.
Mr. Patel is a renowned lawyer and philanthropist from Miami, Florida. Though he is well known for his work in the legal field, Mr. Patel is highly active in supporting charities, including his role as Chairman of the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, CEO of Gracious Hands Orphanage in Haiti, and benefactor to local and global causes.
In recent news, Mr. Patel is announcing the release of his brand-new children’s book, The Beautiful Caterpillar, which he co-wrote with his 7-year old daughter, Maya. The Beautiful Caterpillar is a thoughtfully written children’s story that examines the reality of “stranger danger” and bullying, through characters that children will love and relate to.
Told in the words of a young boy and caterpillar, the story will teach children the significance of listening to their own intuition, the power of saying ‘no,’ and the importance of celebrating their own beauty and confidence. Safety tips are provided for children and adults at the end of the book to serve as a guide for sometimes difficult, but necessary, discussions.
“I started this project after working with a group in Miami called SPARKHERCHANGE, which helps victims of sex trafficking,” says Mr. Patel. “After realizing it’s impossible to fix the situation by solely supporting the victims, I wanted to find a way to educate little girls on how to avoid predators and what to do when they feel scared and uncomfortable.”
Alas, with the support of his 7-year-old daughter, Maya, Mr. Patel created the idea to use a caterpillar to illustrate the journey a young girl may encounter. Mr. Patel believes many girls try to rush through the innocent stage of being a girl and try hard to look and act like a woman. Through The Beautiful Caterpillar, Mr. Patel and Maya make it clear that the caterpillar is beautiful from the beginning.
“This book isn’t just for little girls…I believe it’s important for little boys to read this book too,” Mr. Patel continues. “Throughout the book, the little boy’s character shows his softer side by supporting his friend and providing her with positive advice. I feel this can help boys to understand the important role of respecting women.”
In order to support the organization which sparked the idea for the book, 100% of the proceeds will go to funding SPARKHERCHANGE for them to continue their important work in helping women affected by sex trafficking. Over 1,000 hardback cover versions in Creole will also be sent to Haiti, in order to help support issues with child sex slavery. Additionally, 1,000 copies of this book will be donated to local children’s hospitals and daycare centers.
