Snapchat has redesigned the Stories tab again, and the new design will add post-roll ads and playlists, making it a more engaging and interesting way of sharing stories. The new tab isn't really "all new"; in a lot of ways it rolls back the redesign that was made in June, but it does also make Snapchat better in a lot of ways, making it more TV-like. Snapchat has offered some insight on their own blog as to the logic behind these changes, but in the simplest terms, the changes will help to make the social service more engaging, and improve discoverability.
The Recent Updates feed for people's individual Stories is now shown at the top of the Stories tab, and the Live Stories and Discover feed will show below that. This may mean that the Discover feed ends up buried, depending on how many people users follow, but the feed is still there, and users can find it if they scroll or swipe far enough. A lot of people expressed dissatisfaction at the changes that Snapchat made back in March. They disliked the way that they were not returned to the Recent Updates feed after viewing a story, so they couldn't choose whose Story they saw next. The latest update reverses that change, bringing back some popular functionality, and making Snapchat feel more like something users have control over, instead of a service where they are forced to just watch without much control. The new changes make the service more "TIVO like", so users can watch what they want and more importantly when they want. However, that doesn't mean that the service gives users full control. Users will see ads in their Stories playlist for example, and getting used to that new feature may take a while.
