Creative Enzymes Launches Generative AI Enzyme Design Service

-- Creative Enzymes, a biotechnology company focused on enzyme research and manufacturing, today launched its Generative AI Enzyme Design service. The offering allows researchers and manufacturers to generate functional, novel enzymes for specific reactions and industrial conditions—without relying on natural templates.

Industrial biotech keeps hitting the same old wall—enzymes just can't handle industrial conditions. Evolution designed enzymes for one thing: helping organisms thrive. It never gave a thought to high temperatures, organic solvents, or concentrated substrates inside a reactor. The go-to fix we've been relying on, directed evolution, is slow, expensive, and even after many rounds, we're still often constrained by the inherent limitations of the starting scaffold, making it an inefficient and costly process.

"Using our Generative AI De Novo Enzyme Engineering platform completely transforms the starting approach to enzyme discovery," said Dr. Charles, Head of Purification Sciences at Creative Enzymes. "Instead of evolving existing enzymes from nature, we design new enzymes based entirely on the function required by our client. As a result, we can find solutions that nature has never thought of." The company’s new platform melds diffusion models with transformer architectures for generating amino acid sequences and predicting their 3D shapes. To initiate the process, the user defines the desired functionality of the target enzyme. The AI then generates a series of candidate sequences based on these given parameters. At this stage, candidate sequences are computationally folded to predict their three-dimensional structures and evaluated for solubility, stability, and overall structural soundness. The company claims that the entire computer-based approach takes 2-3 months, followed by a 2-3 month period for enzyme synthesis and testing. For certain reaction types, up to 20% of synthesized and tested enzymes show observable activity.

Whether the goal is unlocking a reaction never before achieved with a biological catalyst, designing binders for molecules nature never made, or stabilizing enzymes against heat, solvents, and high concentrations—the platform adapts to the challenge. All designs are backed by full experimental validation, from protein production to activity testing and detailed characterization.
